Early 2000s makeup trends are making a big comeback this season. Just last week, we saw a bold eye makeup look in Dior’s SS21 presentation which was reminiscent of the thick liner that was oh-so-trendy in the early 2000s and now, yet another influential fashion house chose to dig into the archives and pull out a glam brief.
Chanel’s 2021 ready-to-wear presentation took place at the historic location Grand Palais, covered with massive glass panels, the venue was painted white to make the clothes pop. While Chanel staged the show for a select few and streamed it for the rest, we mortals also got to see it in its entirety — just an hour later in the form of a fabulous fashion film. And we kid you not when we say that the makeup instantly caught our eye — a perfectly matte complexion paired with bold smokey eyes that transported us back to the early 2000s!
“It’s about a cinematic woman. The makeup look is very exquisite masculine and feminine with a minimalist glamour feel to it. It’s an all-over matte look. It’s very finished and matte in a pristine kind of way,” revealed Lucia Pica, the makeup director for the show. It is captivating, bold with a certain chicness to it and is super easy to re-create.
Here’s how to create the bold smokey eye makeup look from Chanel’s SS21 show:
Step 01: Apply a blurring primer like the Lakme Absolute Blur Perfect Primer to even out your skin texture and give your foundation a smooth canvas to glide on.
Step 02: Next, apply a matte foundation like the Lakme 9 to 5 Primer + Matte Powder Foundation using a damp beauty sponge for a flawless finish.
Step 03: Line your upper and lower lashline using the Lakme Absolute Kohl Ultimate and gently smudge it using the smudger that comes along with it. Set the kohl in place using a black eyeshadow from the Lakme Absolute Spotlight Eyeshadow Palette - Smokin Glam.
Step 04: Sweep on generous coats of the Lakme Eyeconic Curling Mascara to amp up your lashes and define your brows using Lakme Absolute Precision Eye Artist Eyebrow Pencil.
Step 05: Finish the look by putting on a flattering matte lip from the Lakme 9to5 Naturale Matte Lipstick collection. Simply apply the lipstick on the centre of your lips and use your ring finger to dab the product all over the lips for a natural look. Set the look with a mattifying spray and voila! You’re all set to slay.
