It's September, the month when the leaves turn colours, the nip in the air returns, and layering becomes the order of the day. As far as hairstyle trends go, it's going to be a month of the low ponytail, a classic hairstyle that has been re-invented for the modern, girl-on-the-go.

It seems to be getting quite popular with millennials looking for a low-maintenance hairstyle that is easy and chic at the same time. We feel that it is a great hairstyle to style and maintain long hair before winter months arrive — when you can finally wear your hair down.

As seen on international runways, the low pony has been paired with both, feminine designs of Valentino and structured, androgynous pantsuits by Alberta Ferretti, and looked right at home with all genres.

Even though runways are following a more sleek and minimal approach, celebrity and red-carpet fashion took it up a notch. We still do love all of the low ponytails, but we’ll definitely archive the celeb hairdos to go with our festive ensembles. Loose tendrils, stunning textured tresses, statement hair accessories and clip-in extensions that give your mane intense volume, are some styles we can’t wait to try!

So how exactly can you make sure to achieve a smart low ponytail without having your hair fall flat? Follow some of these simple tips for the same:

  1. Do the style on freshly washed hair so that it doesn’t get weighed down by oil build-up on day 2 or day 3 hair.
  2. Prep your tresses with volumizing products that will add texture to the ponytail.
  3. Look for hair accessories like pearly pins, sheer silk scarves, and other eye-catching accessories to jazz up the style.
  4. If you’re going for an uber flat front look, spritz some medium-hold hairspray on a spoolie and lay down any flyways, especially the baby hair.
