We just reported on all the gorgeous makeup and hair the women rocked on the red carpet at the Costume Institute Gala hosted at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. Usually, the men have played supporting roles on the red carpet, dressed in dapper suits and escorting their dates for the evening across the red carpet.
The trend has been shifting and we witnessed it first hand at this year’s Met Gala when men came dressed to slaughter the shutterbugs. The theme was ‘Camp’, defined as “a style which is somewhat difficult to define but includes elements of irony, humour, parody, pastiche, artifice, theatricality, and exaggeration...”
So exaggerated makeup and hair and gloriously OTT took centre stage and here are the best makeup looks men sported!
Darren Criss showed up in a beaded Balmain jacket and an insolent sweep of blue across his eyes and a single line of red on his lips. We loved the drama of the look!
Cody Fern showed in carefully constructed finger waves and sported one of the most on-trend hair of the season. The wet-hair look has been seen on the likes of Kim K and Sophie Turner and the men were not to be left behind!
Ezra Miller chose this optical illusion makeup by artist Mimi Choi, and although it is totally over the top and may not find too many takers, we appreciate the artwork and how it totally reflects the theme of the day.
The theme celebrates garish decadence and Michael Urie hit the nail on the head with this half ‘n’ half costume and makeup. We love the makeup and hair which have been done carefully to go with the half ‘n’ half theme.
The ace designer opted for finger waves and red nails to go with his heels and fishnet stockings. Marc Jacobs wore a suit for the actual event but it was his makeup that took the cake. He contour, pink lipstick and the eye makeup were just perfect!
James Charles debuted at the Met Gala and he wore his signature makeup look for the event. Perfectly done eyes, nude lip and a flawless base made us go ‘whoa’!
We cannot complete the men’s roundup without a shout out to Billy Porter who knocked it out of the park with this golden, totally baroque look. The ostentatious eyes and the golden highlights on a brown lip is a lesson for budding makeup artists!
