Our makeup routines have changed significantly over the past year, thanks to the pandemic. Heavy full coverage foundations and bold lip colours took a backseat, while lightweight formulas and nude lippies became everyone’s go-to products. This change has now given rise to a whole new makeup trend called ‘muted skin’.

As the name suggests, muted skin is all about creating a monotone makeup look using warm, earthy tones. The whole point is to achieve a beautiful warm, brown monochrome makeup look, irrespective of your skin’s natural undertone. But that’s not all. The muted skin makeup trend has also achieved the celebrity stamp of approval with B-town divas sporting this look with aplomb.

Want to learn how to recreate it? Scroll down for a step-by-step guide that’ll help you ace the muted skin trend!

Step 01: After cleansing and toning the skin, start by applying a nourishing moisturiser like the Lakme 9 To 5 Matte Moist Mattifying Moisturiser to hydrate and nourish your skin.

Step 02: Take a pea-sized amount of the Lakme Absolute Blur Perfect Makeup Primer and apply it all over your face and neck. This will eliminate skin imperfections, create a smooth base and make your makeup last longer.

Step 03: Next, ditch your foundation and reach for a lightweight BB cream such as the Pond’s White Beauty BB+ Cream SPF 30 PA++. Dot this all over your face and blend it using a makeup sponge for a natural, skin-like finish. If you notice visible dark circles or blemishes or pigmentation, apply a little bit of the Lakme Absolute Mattreal Mousse Concealer in the problem areas for a natural yet flawless finish.

Step 04: Now, it’s time to prep the eyes. Take the matte brown shade from the Lakme Absolute Infinity Eye Shadow Palette - Soft Nudes and apply it all over your eyelids. Blend it using a fluffy eyeshadow brush. Since this eyeliner aims at a natural finish, we would recommend you to skip the eyeliner altogether.

Step 05: To define and open up your eyes, start by curling your lashes and then applying a single coat of a lengthening mascara like the Lakme Eyeconic Curling Mascara.

Step 06: Add a subtle flush colour to your cheeks using the Lakme 9 to 5 Weightless Matte Mousse Lip & Cheek Color - Coffee Lite. Dot it on the apples of your cheeks and blend in an upward and outward motion for a natural finish.

Step 07: Take the same lip and cheek tint mentioned in the previous step and apply it to your lips to finish off the beautiful muted skin makeup look. Simple, isn’t it?
