BB: Tell us about your journey. How did you make it to the film industry?
SE: It wasn’t easy at all. When you really want something in life, the universe starts working for it. I used to help out my best friend with her blog where we would create different looks while we were in college. One fine day she recommended my name to someone who needed a hairstylist and the concept of working as a professional was completely new to me. I was not confident. She literally pushed me to do this. I did my first shoot with that magazine and the photographer loved my work. And that’s what motivated me to work more towards it. I started doing test shoots and kept maintaining my social media. That’s how I was observed by the managers of actors.
BB: Who was the first Bollywood actress you worked with? Name one actress you dream to work with and why?
SE: Bhumi Pednekar was the first Bollywood actress I styled.
I have always dreamt of working with Marylin Monroe because my personal taste in styling is vintage. The 50s had the most beautiful appeal to me in terms of not just hair but also in terms of fashion. As for now I can't wait to work with Kangana Ranaut, she's ethereal!
BB: What’s your experience of working with celebrities? Do you decide what hairstyle to go for or does the celeb have any inputs/ideas of her own?
SE: Well, experience has been great and satisfying when it comes to celebrity styling. I try and keep my options ready to go with the outfits and I try and push actors to try new styles. As a celebrity, they really do have the power to appeal and propagate the masses in a big way. In the end, it’s a mutual decision but I always research the celebrities—their taste and what would appeal to them. In the end they must all like what they are endorsing!
BB: How do you keep updated on the latest hair trends?
SE: International online magazines, hairstyling trend forecasting from WGSN and a big inspiration for me has been the past decades, nothing like going back in time reinventing! I really believe in breaking the rules, but I also know one needs to know the rules in order to break them.
BB: What hair tips would you advice our readers to employee during monsoon?
SE: Keep it short and simple, easy to dry. Avoid heat as hair tends to get frizzier, add leave-in conditioner and carry a serum with you around in your handbag at all times. The rain does weigh upon all of us, but it doesn't mean we can't have fun. Ponytails are classic and have been around for decades. With the kind of accessories we have in the market right now, you can amp up your ponytail and make it look glamorous without much effort.

BB: You recently styled Kriti Kharbanda for the Grazia Millennial Awards 2019. We totally loved that ponytail edition you created for her. Can you break down the look for our readers?
SE: Keeping in mind it was the Millennial Awards, I wanted to give Kriti something edgy, experimental yet easy to carry. This hairstyle was so understated yet striking with the pop of neon thread that I entwined the high ponytail with.
I'm glad that the style turned out so well and Kriti pulled it off so confidently. I think everyone needs to try it this monsoon and have no bad hair days.
Step 1: Prep the hair with some hair mousse
Step 2: Blow dry the hair section by section for a strong root lift and body
Step 3: Use a 32-inches hot curling wand to create loose tousled waves
Step 4: Secure the entire hair into a mid-ponytail using a bungee band
Step 5: Back comb the center part which is inside of the ponytail
Step 6: Create a U-pin shaped wire and insert it in the back combed part. This is how you create a base. Make sure it doesn’t move once you insert
Step 7: Leave some hair and secure the rest of the ponytail either using a thread, band or a hair tie, repeat the same thing until you reach the end of the ponytail
Step 8: Complete the look with a finishing spray and a smoothing lotion
