From our wardrobe being inspired by various characters (shoutout to Poo!) to a lot of our beauty inspo being derived from the films we watch, the impact of Bollywood in our day-to-day life is undeniable. But the one thing we've ended up coveting the most is the almost-effortless, absolutely flawless bouncy waves that each celeb has sported, at least at some point.
Whether it's for a cosy dinner date or a festive occasion, soft, bouncy, cascading waves never go out of style. And if you've wanted to learn how to recreate this stunning hairstyle, we've got you covered. Ahead, we're giving you all the tips and tricks you need to get Bollywood style bouncy waves. Next stop, red carpet!
- Step 01: Hair prep
- Step 02: Blow-dry time
- Step 03: Curl it up!
- Step 04: Loosen your curls to make waves
- Step 05: Keeping it in place
Step 01: Hair prep
Start prepping your hair by detangling it gently. To lift your roots, we recommend you use the TIGI Bed Head Superstar Queen For A Day, which has a powerful volumising formula that'll provide long-lasting volume and thickness.
Step 02: Blow-dry time
It’s time to blow-dry! But before you do that, don't forget to protect your hair from heat damage! Use the TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Heat Protection Spray to shield your hair from heat. After spraying your hair evenly, start by blow-drying your hair roughly against its natural direction – doing so will help add more volume and make it easier to achieve those big, bouncy waves. Next, take a round brush, and with the hairdryer on the lowest setting, run the dryer and the brush along the lengths of the hair to create a smooth texture that's manageable and frizz-free.
Step 03: Curl it up!
Start by taking a curling wand — we recommend a 1-inch wand – and section off your hair. Clip up the top section – just like they do in the salons – and leave the bottom hair as is. Take small sections of the hair, preferably of the same size as the curling wand, and wrap your hair around it in an outward direction. Hold the section for around 10-15 seconds, and drop the curl. Scrunch it and hold it in your hand till it cools down, release, and repeat. Easy-peasy!
Step 04: Loosen your curls to make waves
You might notice that your curls are a little tight. You can easily turn them into breezy, bouncy waves by running your fingers through your hair or running a brush gently over your hair. Be careful as you don't want to unfurl your curls altogether! Psst… if you like the way your waves are falling, you can skip this step altogether.
Step 05: Keeping it in place
We're almost at the finish line! For the final step, use the TRESemmé Micro Mist Texture Hair Styling Spray with Natural Finish, which holds your hair with no stiffness and ensures you have natural-looking waves. And also because you don't want curls to disappear in a few hours. Hold it about 4-5 inches away from your hair, spray evenly throughout your hair to keep your hairstyle in place and the flyaways at bay. And voilà! That's all it takes to get Bollywood style, bouncy waves.
