If you have silky, soft and poker straight hair, then you would be all too familiar with the struggle of getting your curls to last more than 10 minutes, amirite? No matter how much hair spray you apply or how hot the tong, somehow your hair just doesn’t hold the curl. Well, you are not alone.

Don’t be bummed out though, ‘cause we’re here to help. Simply follow these hairstyling tips to make sure your curls stay in place on those straight tresses all day long. Read on…

01. Curl second-day hair

01. Curl second-day hair

Freshly washed (especially naturally straight) hair isn’t really great at holding curls since it doesn’t have enough texture. Therefore, ensure that you curl second or third day hair as the natural oils from your scalp will end up adding more grit and hold to your hair. This will help the curls stay in place a bit longer. To deal with the greasy scalp and lift up your roots, spritz on a generous amount of the Dove Volume and Fullness Dry Shampoo.

02. Use a small wand

02. Use a small wand

When it comes to curling straight hair that lacks natural texture to hold a curl, it is really important to use the right wand size. A smaller wand will give you tighter curls, which take a lot longer to relax and come undone as opposed to big, loose curls that a bigger wand size would create.

03. Allow the curl to cool off

03. Allow the curl to cool off

If your curls come undone a little too easily, then a great way to prevent this is to allow them to cool off properly. What we mean is, after you have curled a section of your hair, scrunch it in your hands and allow it to cool off while you are still holding it. This will ensure that your hair has cooled down and settled into a curl, preventing it from coming undone too soon.
