Indian weddings are more often than not, the grandest of affairs. With so many people attending the function and you being the centre of attraction through the entirety of the event, it is imperative that you look and feel your very best on the day of your wedding, and on other associated days as well (Indian weddings are never really a one-day episode). Well, wedding season is almost here (a few months at the most) and you won’t even realise when the remaining days slip by and the day of your wedding is suddenly staring you right in the face.
And then there’s just so much to do as well. The venue needs to be booked months in advance (you’ve probably done that already) and the food tastings seem to be on the horizon. When it comes to your big day, there can be no room for any oversight either. Everything needs to be well thought of and perfect. You already have some sort of a picture in your mind of how you wish to look on the day of your wedding. The colour, the design and the flare of your lehenga (or saree, or whatever it is that you’ll be wearing that day) are quite firmly implanted in your mind by now.
Then, there’s also the job of finding the best possible photographer to cover your wedding. The lighting and decorations need to be perfect as well. And your makeup needs to be on point for you to look your very best on probably the biggest day in your life. But amongst all of these pursuits, there’s one thing that often goes unnoticed and often left for the eleventh hour. Your hairdo is one key part of your wedding day look that is often the most underrated, since your bridal hairstyle can often play the deciding factor in how your overall appearance turns out on your big day, and especially in the wedding pictures.
There are a host of different bridal hairstyles to choose from for your big day, all depending on whether you want to wear your hair long, short or medium, curly or straight. It can all get pretty confusing at times, especially for the uninitiated. So to help you make a better and more informed decision regarding your hairdo for your wedding day, our BeBeautiful squad has curated a list of some different Indian bridal hairstyles that are in vogue and go perfectly with Indian attire (or even some of the Indo-western ones).
- Asymmetrical and Pinned Up
- Flowing like a Waterfall
- Tousled and Braided on the Side
- The Short Messy Updo
- Half-Up Hair
Asymmetrical and Pinned Up

Wedding buns are perhaps the most traditional bridal hairstyle you’ll come across in the country. However, if you’re trying to tie hair in the same old-fashioned way every time and wish to try out something new for your big day, the asymmetrical pin-up is a really fun and quirky way to go about it. All you need to do is twist your hair a few times on one side and then bring it back in a bun. Pretty quick and convenient, isn’t it?
Flowing like a Waterfall

When it comes to best bridal hairstyles, waterfall braids are quite the rage these days. This one might be a bit more complex than the others to get right, but the result certainly seems to justify the effort. Take three sections of hair from the front and start crisscrossing them, taking in new strands as you go about it. Repeat the process all the way to the back of your head before pinning it up there. You’re all ready to look like the regal princess that you are on your wedding day now!
Tousled and Braided on the Side

Side braids are a really cool option for Indian brides, especially since the Ghoonghat is an essential component of most wedding ceremonies in the country. Part your hair to one side and split it into three sections. Start braiding your hair as you normally would, anchoring it near your ear and tying it up at the end. Pulling at sections of your hair gives your bridal hairstyle more hair volume and a tousled look as well.
The Short Messy Updo

Short hair used to be a little difficult to work with when it came to simple bridal hairstyles in the past. However, given the host of different short haired styles at your disposal these days, you could go for anything right from a bob to an updo. For something as simple and incredibly elegant as a quick, messy updo, part at the centre or the side before grabbing 2-inch wide sections from the front of your hair and twisting them to meet behind your head. Continue taking sections and twisting them to the back of your head, pinning them up using bobby pins before finally pulling at sections of your hair to create a slightly tousled, messy look. Works like magic, this one!
Half-Up Hair

The half-up bridal hairstyle is a quick, easy-to-do hairdo that requires minimal effort to make you look elegant, gorgeous and even exceptional on your wedding day. All you need to do is start by separating the hair on the top of your head to create a bump, before pinning it in place by crisscrossing the pins. Then, take 2-inch sections of hair from both sides of the bump and pin them across each other beneath the bump. Once you’ve done that, take sections from both sides of the bump again and tuck them into the sections pinned earlier. This bridal hairstyle is as easy as it gets and looks classy and stylish too!
