6 hairstyle trends from Lakmé Fashion Week Winter Festive 2019 that are anything but basic

Kareena Kapoor Khan closed Lakmé Fashion Week Winter Festive 2019 with Gauri and Nainika’s show just last evening, and we’ve already picked our favourite trends from the past five days. From quirky hair accessories such as hair rings and jhumkis to a zillion ways to style your braid, it’s safe to say that this season of Lakmé Fashion Week was BIG on hair!

From Genelia D’souza sporting crimped hair on the ramp to Diana Penty’s bobby pin stacked hairdo, celebrities too gave us major hair inspo. Here’s all that we loved from this season of Lakmé Fashion Week...

Braid accessories

One accessory that emerged to be a clear winner on the runway was hair rings. The 11.11 clothing show saw hair rings pierced into braids with a messy faux mohawk that went well with their easy breezy outfits.
Aavaran Udaipur brought a pop of their culture into the hairstyles on the runway at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter Festive 2019. The braids, which fell right in the middle of the model’s faces were accentuated with silver jhumkis, whereas the rest of their hair was tied in a sleek twisted bun. Who knew jhumkis could make for such chic hair accessories?

A new take on bubble ponytails

Up until now, the bubble ponytail was all about pulling your hair together into a single ponytail. But the runway models just took this hairstyle a notch higher for the 11.11 clothing show by flaunting multiple bubble ponytails in a single hairdo. This perky take on the bubble ponytail is something we are dying to try.

Baby’s breath takes our breath away

From your regular bobby pins to colourful tic-tacs and headbands, this season of Lakmé Fashion Week was big on hair accessories. While baby’s breath or gypsophila are the kind of flowers that instantly light a frame, it felt like a breath of fresh hair to see these flowers make their way to the runway as hair accessories. The half-up half-down hairstyle spotted at the By Kaveri show looked extra oomphy with delicate baby’s breath adding its touch of beauty to it.

Top knots with a side of sass!

Top knots have been one of the comfiest ways to wear your hair, be it on a regular day at work, at the gym or even to a party. So, when we saw this sassy edition of the top knot doing the rounds on the runway, we couldn’t help but take notes. Girls, it’s time to ditch your regular way of wearing the top knot! For the Abraham and Thakore show, models sported a side top knot with their sporty collection and we loved this new take on the classic hairstyle.

Back to basics

Pigtails instantly remind us of our school days. And when we saw this hairstyle make a comeback with the Tahweave show on day 4 at the Lakmé Fashion Week Winter Festive 2019, we were hit by nostalgia. Centre-parted pigtails falling in the front complemented Tahweave’s collection, which was a ritualistic mix of screen printing and hand weaves. Whoever said pigtails were a thing of the past, didn’t see this coming!

Here’s another hairstyle that can take your saree game to a whole new level. Malavika Mohanan, who walked the ramp for Padmaja on day 2 at Lakmé Fashion Week sported a tousled braid with micro braids going all over. It is the most intricate hairdo we’ve seen in a long, long time and we have her hairstylist Sanky Evrus to thank. The unkempt look with face-framing strands is just what you need if you’re looking to break away from the uber traditional vibe a saree usually gives.
