But do these masks actually do anything for your skin or are they just another passing beauty trend? The truth is that if you use the right type of mask for your skin type, it will hydrate, exfoliate, detox and add a healthy glow too. Here's how to choose and use the best peel-off mask for your skin type.
01Consider your skin type
Most peel off masks will absorb excess oil from the skin, this makes it an excellent product for those with oily and acne-prone skin. Since these masks help reduce pore size and make the skin appear firm, mature skin can also benefit from it. However, if you have sensitive skin, active acne and rosacea, we suggest you consult with your dermatologist before using them so that they don't end up irritating the skin further.
02Check the ingredients
There's no one-size-fits-all when it comes to peel-off masks. If you have oily or acne-prone skin, look for masks that contain ingredients like tea tree, charcoal, clay, glycolic acid or salicylic acid for best results. If you are more on the normal to dry side, ensure your peel-off mask contains hydrating ingredients like vitamin E, glycerine, aloe vera gel, hyaluronic acid to give your skin a boost of hydration.
03Use it in your nighttime skincare routine
Most people believe peel-off masks can be used at any time of the day. However, that's not true. Peel-off masks gently exfoliate the top layer of the skin, removing deep-set dirt, blackheads and some facial hair along. Exposing your skin to the harsh rays of the sun afterwards can really damage your skin. Therefore, apply your masks at night after thoroughly cleansing your face. Follow it up with your favourite serum or night cream.
04Don’t overdo it
Just because it gives your skin a squeaky clean look does not mean you should use it regularly. Three times a week is fine if you have oily skin with clogged pores but if you have sensitive skin we recommend sticking to once a week.
