Ever notice those little lines around your eyes every time you smile or laugh? Well, those lines are what we call crow’s feet. Fine lines and wrinkles are a very natural part of ageing and they occur because your muscles contract each time you make a facial expression.
Now, that you know what crow’s feet actually is, let’s get to a more serious subject. Contrary to what all those anti-ageing ads feed you, know that fine lines and wrinkles don’t completely disappear and nor can you entirely prevent them from appearing. But the good news is that you can delay their occurrence by religiously following an anti-ageing skincare routine, coupled with some smart lifestyle changes.
Read on to find out five ways in which you can prevent and treat crow’s feet around the eyes.
- Arm yourself with sunscreen
- Moisturising eye creams to the rescue
- Wear sunglasses
- Pamper the skin around your eyes with massages
Arm yourself with sunscreen

We have told you this before and we will tell you this again – wear sunscreen every single day irrespective of what season it is. When your skin is exposed to sun rays, it causes damage in the form of sunspots and premature ageing, which obviously includes crow’s feet. Therefore, it is important to wear an SPF of at least 30 PA+++ or more during the day, all-year-round.
Moisturising eye creams to the rescue

Wrinkles occur because the eye area becomes extremely dry and the collagen levels decrease. This is why it is advisable to use a moisturising and nourishing eye cream. This will not just help reduce the appearance of crow’s feet but also prevent the occurrence of new ones. Look for eye creams that are enriched with moisturising ingredients such as honey, hyaluronic acid and cucumbers.
Wear sunglasses

The skin around your eyes is very thin and deserves a little extra protection. Each time you want to step out in the sun, always wear a pair of UV protected sunglasses. This will go a long way in protecting your eyes and effectively prevent the appearance of crow’s feet.
Pamper the skin around your eyes with massages

The repeated use of the same muscles leads to crow’s feet and other types of fine lines. Crow’s feet and smile lines occur more quickly because this is the area that has the most active muscles in your body. And to help them relax for a little while, it is important to massage them each night while applying your eye cream and other skincare products. This will help loosen up the muscles and reduce crow’s feet.
