Everything you need to know about a ‘blind’ pimple and how to treat it

Ever felt a bump on your face that hurt when you touched it? If you don’t already know what that is, we have news for you (and it’s not good)—it’s a pimple; a ‘blind’ pimple.

Yep! Here you were dealing with the pimples you could see and there were some beneath your skin that you didn’t even notice. At least there’s one good thing about this ghostly pimple that it can’t be seen and that’s why you won’t have annoying people pointing it out to you. But it’s still there and needs to be gotten rid of.

Here is everything you need to know about a blind pimple and how to deal with it.

How a blind pimple occurs

Tea tree oil

These blind zits are basically cysts developed due to an accumulation of oil, dirt and bacteria that get trapped in your pores inside the skin. So, it’s like your regular pimple but below the surface of the skin. The skin around it feels inflamed and tender and may appear red. These pimples are really painful and since they are deep inside the skin, are harder to treat. They can appear anywhere on your face just like your regular pimple. If you are struggling with a number of blind pimples, you might have a serious acne condition aka cystic acne.

How to treat it

Tea tree oil

First of all, don’t even think about popping, picking or squeezing this pimple as it spreads the bacteria and leave permanent scars. Try treating it in these three ways.

Green tea

Tea tree oil

Green tea has antibacterial properties and acts as an astringent. It reduces the redness and inflammation and treats the pimple by killing the bacteria. Soak green tea bags in warm water and put it on the affected area for two to three minutes. Rinse and moisturise.

Warm compress

Try steam or warm compress to speed up the healing process of acne. This also helps reducing pain and inflammation and relieving the pus. Soak cotton pad in hot water and press it against the pimple. Keep it that way for about 10 minutes and repeat a couple of times a day.

If there’s an ingredient known as the holy-grail for acne, it is tea tree oil. It heals the pimple and prevents scarring as well. Dilute a few drops of tea tree oil in water and apply the mixture on blind pimple. Leave it on overnight.
