Smoker’s lines often called lipstick lines is not something any woman would wish for. Fine lines around the mouth reveal your real age and all those unhealthy habits you are yet to give up. If you have noticed a small, vertical line forming just above your lip, you are a victim of smoker’s line.
Before you panic, hear us out. Even if you’ve never had a cigarette you can still develop a smoker’s line. Formation of lines around your mouth happens in the same way as it does around your forehead or eyes, mainly caused due to muscle movement. The reason could be anything from smoking and ageing to UV rays and a poor diet.
There are a few ways to tackle this problem, read on to find out how.
This tip may not apply to everybody reading this article, but if you are a smoker you need to stop. Smoking not only causes harm to your body internally but it also causes your skin to age faster. So if you wish to look young for a longer time, it’s time to quit.
Do mouth exercises
Facial exercises and yoga can help get rid of smoker’s lines if practised regularly. Here’s an exercise to get you started.
Step 01: Place your index finger on the corners of your mouth.
Step 02: Apply pressure and draw your upper lip towards the mouth corners.
Step 03: Stretch the area a little until there are no creases or lines on your upper lip.
Step 04: Hold for five seconds and release. Repeat thrice.
UV rays cause more damage to your skin than you can ever imagine. If you still don’t use a sunscreen with an SPF value of 30 or higher, it’s high time you start. Do not leave your house in the morning before applying a layer of sunscreen.
Exfoliate and moisturise
In order to reveal younger, healthy-looking skin, it is important to exfoliate your skin at least twice a week in order to get rid of the dead skin cells. Applying moisturiser regularly prevents dryness and nourishes skin at the deepest levels, making it look smoother and softer.
Last but not least, you are what you eat. Therefore, it is important to develop healthy eating habits and avoid junk food. Drink enough water and consume alcohol in moderation if you want to get rid of that smoker’s line.
