Belonging to the oily skin category, I've dealt with my share of skin problems as a teenager and as an adult. While I accepted unannounced breakouts as a part of my life, dull skin, uneven skin tone and rough skin texture is something I never saw coming. Over the last few months, I realised my skin needed deeper cleansing. My micellar water + facial cleanser were only working on removing surface dirt; I needed something that would help get rid of deep-set dirt and impurities that clog my pores and cause those pesky breakouts. I know exfoliating is a no brainer, but since my skin is slightly sensitive to conventional scrubs, I prefer to steer clear of them. 01What is it?

I used the Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant for a month and here’s what it did for my oily skin

First things first, I was surprised to discover that this scrub is so gentle that I can use it every day — say what! But since my skin leans towards the sensitive side, I decided to use it every alternate day. A white, superfine powder made from finely granulated rice turns into a creamy textured paste when mixed with water. The product is infused with salicylic acid to chemically exfoliate, and liquorice and grapefruit to correct uneven skin tone — just what I needed.

02How to use it?

After cleansing my face with micellar water at the end of the day, I sprinkle a dime-sized amount of powder onto my palm, add a few drops of water and then gently scrub my face with the paste in circular motions. I scrub for a whole minute, before rinsing it off with lukewarm water. I noticed that my skin felt a lot smoother and glowing right off the bat. And unlike most exfoliators, this one didn't leave my skin feeling tight or dry (something I hate) post-use.

Over the last month, I've been using the microfoliant every alternate day. Apart from giving me thoroughly cleansed skin after every wash, I've noticed that the oiliness on my face has also reduced considerably. Clogged pores and blackheads are not prominently visible anymore and my skin feels soft and smooth too. I did get a few breakouts around my menstrual cycle, but my skin definitely looks clearer and better overall. If you've been looking for a gentle exfoliator to add to your beauty routine that gives more than it takes, I highly recommend you get your hands on this one.
