Facial massage can help get rid of frown lines — here’s how to do it

Ageing brings about a lot of changes in the body — greying hair and wrinkles are some of the first visible signs of ageing. As you age, your skin becomes thinner and loses its elasticity. Over time, the natural ageing process coupled with repeated facial expressions causes wrinkles and furrows, often known as frown lines.

While there are several in-office treatments you can opt for to get rid of frown lines, but if you’re looking for a more natural approach, we suggest facial massage — can help soften frown lines and give you a youthful appearance.

But before we tell you how to massage your face to diminish those frown lines, let’s take a look at what causes them other than ageing.

Causes of frown lines:

Sunlight - The UV rays of the sun are quite damaging for your skin. They break down the elastin and collagen at a much faster rate, making you more susceptible to frown lines.

Stress - Stress causes the facial muscles to tense up and release the stress chemical called cortisol in the body — this accelerates premature ageing.

Smoking - Tobacco is harmful to your skin as much as it is to your body. Inhaling tobacco constricts your blood vessels and prevents the natural flow of oxygenated blood to the facial tissues.

Forehead - For a smooth wrinkle-free forehead, follow this facial massaging technique: Place the palms of your hand on each side of your forehead. Now, hold the skin tight with your left hand and press the palm of your right hand on the right side of your forehead in a clockwise, circular motion for about two minutes. Repeat on the left side. Repeat thrice.

Around the eyes - Place your thumbs on the outer corner of the eyes and fingers on the side of your head. Close your eyes and gently pull the outer corner of the eyes using your thumbs towards the sides of your head, slightly upwards. Hold for 10 seconds then relax. Repeat 15 times daily.
