Saffron is not just a spice that can flavour up any food that it is added to, it also helps contribute to your good health and gives you radiant skin.
Here are some of the health and beauty benefits of saffron and certain ways to get the best out of this spice.
Increases energy levels

Saffron has been used as an ingredient in many Ayurvedic medicines in order to improve immunity and to boost energy levels. It contains carotenoids that can fight viruses and toxic cells, thereby increasing your immunity.
When added to milk, the calcium in milk combined with the carotenoids in saffron can help boost your energy levels.
Improves your mood

Saffron is used as a natural spice to treat depression and to improve your mood. Serotonin is a chemical found in your body that is associated with happiness, and saffron is a primary source of this chemical. Adding only a few strands of the spice to any of your favourite foodstuffs will help you overcome your depression and boost your mood.
Gives you a flawless complexion

Applying a face mask made using saffron and honey will leave your skin moisturised and radiant by improving your blood circulation.
Add 4-5 strands of saffron to about 2 tablespoons of honey and rub it onto your face. Let it dry for 10 minutes and then wash it off with warm water.
Do this daily and you’ll find your skin glowing naturally in no time at all.
Treats blemishes

Saffron not only gives you brighter skin, it even reduces the dark spots and blemishes on it. A face pack made using basil leaves (tulsi) and saffron will help you clear away the dark spots, giving you an even skin tone. Basil leaves are known to possess anti-bacterial properties that help reduce dark spots.
Soak a few basil leaves and some strands of saffron in water overnight. In the morning, make a paste out of them and apply it onto your face. Leave it on for about 15 minutes before rinsing it off with cold water.
Doing this twice a week will not only clear away the blemishes but will also give you gorgeous glowing skin.
