If there’s a designer duo synonymous with opulence and elegance, it is undoubtedly Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla. Known to create magic with their garments, the designers have been the frontrunners in the fashion world for over 27 illustrious years. Precisely why it is so fitting for them to be our opening designers at the Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/ Festive 2015. We had the chance to chat up with the men of the moment before the show. Here’s what they had to say.

You’re opening Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2015. What’s in store for us this time around?

Well, we can’t divulge too many details but can surely assure you that there’s going to be many surprises lined up for the opening show. So just sit back and watch out for this one!

Give us a hint of what we’re going to witness…

It’s a conceptual show. It’s called Jawaani Jaaneman. It’s a bit retro. You’ll see mostly whites and shades of beige. It’s not Bollywood per se but I can tell you this much that it’s got retro Bollywood music playing all along.

Is there an added pressure when you’re the opening the show?

Oh never! It’s always a pleasure when you open Fashion Week. Whether it’s the opening or the closing, we don’t do medals.

Who have you chosen as your muse this time at LFW Winter/Festive 2015?

Well, for us, our models are the showstoppers. They’re carrying our clothes beautifully. So there’s a huge army of boys and girls who are going to play muse and surprise everyone at this show.

What’s the inspiration behind the collection?

It’s young, it’s fun. Of course, the clothes have all our classic elements with embroidery and all that. But you’ll also see a lot of experimentation around the clothes.

What’s the biggest challenge when you’re opening a show?

You’re a bundle of nerves before the show and you always hope that nobody falls! We always give a pep talk before the show and tell all our models to do their best. But besides that, it’s a choreographed show and things are planned in advance so Lubna (Adams, fashion choreographer) has worked really hard. You have to give her credit for that.

Since hair and makeup is a crucial part Fashion Week, what are we going to see in terms of that for your show?

Well, it’s being set up as we speak. And like we said, it’s the opening show so be ready for a big surprise. Kapil (Bhalla, makeup artist) is doing it for us. So let’s see how things turn out.
