When it’s Sabysachi, its class all the way! Inspired by the '70s, the old workshop floor of Byculla's Richardson & Cruddas was transformed into the perfect venue for the opening show that marked the 15th anniversary of Lakmé Fashion Week. Never one to disappoint, Sabya once again proved why he remains one of the best and most sought after designers in the country today.

Celebrating an era
Sabya’s collection, ‘Big Love’ sought inspiration from the iconic '70s, a point he drove home with John Lennon frames and dark glasses flaunted by all his models. For that extra touch of celebration, he sent his models on the ramp with bunches of white balloons - absolutely unexpected and yet, perfectly fitting!

Unexpected floral prints
We will admit – while we expected florals to find their way to the Indian ramps, we did not expect them to be a part of Sabya’s collection. Adding his own unique design aesthetic, he incorporated beautiful florals on flared vintage skirts in red, yellow and gold. To appease the contemporary beauty, he paired them with striped crop tops.

Practical evening wear
In the evening wear department, he introduced dramatic black saris teamed with antique gold embroidered blouses, pre-stitched saris, toga gowns with shimmering hemlines, saris with net extensions and jumpsuits with sheer net capes.

Beyond imagination
Something that absolutely did surprise us – not only did he dramatise his women’s collection, but he also constructed printed suits for men in the most vibrant colours. The highlight – sequinned suits and shirt-coats for all the dapper (and brave!) dudes.

Deepika Padukone
Though celeb spotting is not uncommon at his show, we think Deepika Padukone deserves special mention! Dressed in a Sabyasachi retro-inspired maxi with marsala lips and beach waves, she played the vintage-chic card with much panache.
