Even before we start to state the benefits of baked foods over the fried ones, please allow us to disclaim this article. There is no doubting our love of fried food. No questions asked; we love it irrespective of all the ‘healthy’ that we do! But to be fair, there are foods that are just as nice and yummy when baked! That is to say that opting for a baked variant of your fried favourites is not all that bad. In fact it is a way to cut on the fat while you still keep the flavors intact.

Here are five foods that prove to be healthy foods recipes when baked instead…

Potatoes

Potatoes

Yes those potato fries, buttery and greasy after a fresh bath in oil are delicious but you can’t forever bank on them for a side dish. This is when you can resort to the equally yummy baked potatoes.

How to:

Potatoes adorned in added flavors; herbs, garlic and sea salt when baked are a treat nothing short of fries. Cut them into wedges or cut cross slits into the potato, then dip them into beaten eggs, sprinkle with herbs and place them in a baking dish and into the oven for 30 mins approximately, at 350 degrees until golden brown. Yummy!

Chicken

Chicken

We will never be able to entirely give up on those waistline amplifying fried chicken wings but guess what, the dry frying aka baking method is nothing short of genius either.

How to:

Baked crispy chicken is twice as much a better idea; it is made with less than half the calorie count of its fried counterparts and two, it’s gooey taste.

To make crispy chicken coat chicken breasts in egg white followed by breadcrumbs to give it a crispy crust. Heat a nonstick skillet to medium, and cook about 6-8 minutes per side until golden brown.

Eggplant

Eggplant

Eggplant to begin with is an innocent, harmless, low-calorie vegetable that you don’t want to fry and up its fat quotient.

How to:

Because eggplant absorbs every inch of oil that it touches, you might not always want to cook it in oil or butter. Try making a low fat eggplant recipe where you coat it in egg whites and breadcrumbs, bake it and relish it with a tangy sauce.

Fish

Fish

Fried fish makes for the best possible finger food but then frying totally negates all the possible health benefits; low fat, high protein and the super healthy nutrients like omega 3 fatty acids.

How to:

Fish generally cook quickly enough and work very well when lightly sprayed with oil and put through some 10 minutes in the oven. Serve it with a sprinkle of lemon or with some hot sauce for a healthy, yummy snack. Another very good way to make yourself healthy fish is grill press. Season your fish fillet with salt, herbs and pepper and coat the grill with oil. Place it over the grill and revel in the nice crusty fish fillets.
