While getting yourself to work out every day might in itself seem like quite an achievement, don’t forget that apart from your body, your skin will also bear the brunt of the hours you’re clocking in at the gym. Here are a few things to keep in mind during and after your workout…

First things first…
As soon as you’re home from the gym, go for a quick wash to get rid of all the germs that you might have brought back. Then move on to your regular Cleanse-Tone -Moisturise routine; use cold water, a mild face wash and a non-alcoholic toner.  Don’t make the mistake of using your gym towel to wipe your face, though.

Give the hot shower a miss…
Of course you’re hot and sticky after your workout, just as you should be. And while a hot shower at the gym itself might sound tempting, practice some resistance. Jumping into the shower right after your workout will strip your skin of vital oils leaving your skin feeling dry and itchy – something you’ll realise only a few minutes after you’ve stepped out of the shower.

Beat the persistent natural flush…
Most of us usually have that lovely “natural flush” after our workout that disappears after a few minutes. For a few of us though, that flush stays on – long and persistent. Deal with it by stepping into a cold shower as soon as you’re done with your workout to dissipate the heat and reduce the blood flow to your capillaries. Follow it up with a moisturiser that’s enriched with anti-inflammatory ingredients (such as green tea) that can help calm your skin.

Hydrate from the inside and out…
Your body will lose a lot of liquids in the form of sweat during a workout, so it’s essential that you replenish it soon after you’re done. While most people prefer protein or sugar drinks, we suggest keeping it natural with coconut water or fresh fruit juices to keep your body as well as skin hydrated.

During your run…
Workout acne is caused by pores that are clogged with sweat and grime over a period of time. There are a few things to keep in mind during your run. Firstly, keep the hair off your face (this is especially true if you have bangs), avoid a headband unless it’s a must, ensure that the towel you carry with you while working out isn’t made of harsh fibres that can injure your skin and lastly, refrain from touching your face too often while working out.
