Working The Graveyard Shift? Here Are Some Tips You Should Follow

Unless you’re a night owl, working the night shift will be a draining experience for you. And if you’re giving yourself a jolt of caffeine to stay alert, then stop. It’s not only unhealthy but also affects your skin adversely. Instead, follow these simple tips to manage working the graveyard shift.
Here are some things to do if you’re working the night shift.
Just because you work at night doesn’t mean you can’t get your beauty sleep during the day. A constant lack of sleep is not only unhealthy but also bad for your skin and hair. Investing in some blackout drapes to block out the sunlight and keeping your phone muted will ensure you get good sleep.
Shift work sleep disorder
This is a common concern for people working night shifts on a regular basis. Your body is meant to stay awake during the day and sleep at night, and when that is reversed, it can lead to sleep disorders. The solution? Get adequate sleep and catch up on more sleep during the weekends.
It also helps if you take a day or two off from the night shift to give your body a break.
Eat healthy to stay healthy
Working at night messes with your eating habits which can lead to weight gain. Make sure you maintain a healthy diet to avoid that. Eat a light dinner before your shift starts, preferable at your usual dinner time. Heavy meals tend to make you sleepy, and you end up relying on caffeine to keep you alert. Have a protein-rich fruit snack, like guava, kiwi, orange or banana rather than processed snacks like chips and biscuits.
Stay hydrated
Drink water frequently during your night shift. This will not only keep you hydrated but it will also provide more oxygen to your brain, helping you stay alert.
Take a walk
Take a 10-minute break and go for a short walk during your shift. Do this around 3-4 a.m. when you feel sleepy the most. It will help you stay alert and keep your body refreshed.
