The hectic and stress-filled life of today takes a toll on all of us, and insomnia is just one of the many ways it affects our health. If you’re suffering from this sleep disorder then you can turn to Ayurveda to cure it naturally.
According to Ayurveda there are three constitutions (doshas) that could be causing your insomnia: Tarpak Kapha, Sadhak Pitta, Prana Vata. Here is how you can cure your sleep concerns by focusing on treating these doshas.
Tarpak Kapha

The kapha dosha has to do with the water constitution in your body. Your body consists of 70% water, and any imbalance in this fluid constitution will weaken your brain cells and affects your overall health. If you feel lethargic even after a full night’s rest, you most likely have kapha dosha.
Treatment:
Replace your coffee with green tea. Caffeine stimulates your nerves and gives you a feeling of alertness, which can affect your sleep. A cup of green tea before bed will calm your senses and helps flush out toxins too.
Work out every day and set aside 20-30 minutes for meditation. Meditation increases your focus and calms you, making it easier to relax.
Prana Vata

Do you go to bed but end up being wide awake while recollecting what happened through the day? Vata dosha relates to your nervous system. When your nervous system gets overly sensitive, you start feeling worried and depressed, leading to a lack of sleep.
Treatment:
Massage your feet with an essential oil with calming properties, like lavender or chamomile oil.
A glass of cold milk before bed induces sleep because of the amino acids present in milk.
Sadhak Pitta

This dosha is related with your feelings and emotions. If you fall asleep fast enough but wake up in the middle of the night and can’t go back to sleep again, then pitta dosha is the problem.
Treatment:
Ayurveda says that balancing your pitta includes sleeping before 10:30 pm.
Eat a large meal for dinner so you don’t get hungry at night.
Keep your room cool and comfortable at night. You don’t want to interrupt your sleep because of heat or dryness.
