Seasons come and go – and the same should apply to your hairstyles! While 2021 has been far from a banner year, there's nothing like switching up your hairstyle to get you in the mood to reinvent yourself. And while we love summer hairstyles — from beachy waves to messy ponytails — to no end, we're just about ready to switch it up thanks to the monsoon hair trends that we've come across.
With curtain bangs, cropped cuts, and mermaid waves set the tone at fashion month, we’re spoilt for choice when it comes to some fresh cut inspiration. Ready to take the plunge? Ahead, we've rounded up the five monsoon hair trends you need to try this season.
01. Short bobs

Is it any coincidence that the monsoon hair trends this year are all about cutting our hair short? We think not. Leave us alone with a pair of scissors, and you best believe we're going to chop off our hair and bring short hair back. Blunt and bouncy with a deep sweep, short bobs are the easiest way to go short without, well, going completely short. You can let them reach the jaw or cut them till mid-neck, depending on how brave you are and the texture and density of your hair.
02. Mermaid waves

Summer can have beach waves... Monsoon hair trends have mermaid waves! Think of this style as the ever-so-slightly more polished take on the trend. While the beachy texture is all about being messy and undone, mermaid waves are more uniform and intentional. While they tend to look best on medium to long hair, the breezy, fun and versatile haircut looks great pulled up into a high pony with a few face-framing pieces or worn half-up, half-down, and with either side or centre parts.
03. Pixie cuts

Feeling a little courageous and ready to go completely short? Opt for the pixie cut. It's an all-time classic, thanks to the number of variations in the style – ranging from super short or just a bit longer than normal. And if you needed any more reason to opt for it, here’s one: it's low maintenance since you won’t be spending a ton of time blow-drying your hair. You can leave the house with it wet, and it dries perfectly well on its own!
04. Curtain bangs

Unsure about pulling off fringes all the way? Try curtain bangs! An '80s favourite cut that's made a sudden comeback — it's a versatile, easy pull off a style that's shorter in the middle and longer on the sides. And because it's typically cut longer than other bang styles, curtain bangs are also easy to grow out – no more bang regrets!
05. Caramel highlights

Have you been itching to get back to dyeing your hair already? 2020 may have made us pros at that, but 2021 is where our skills are about to shine through. And the monsoon hair trends dictate – this season, we're going for caramel highlights! Not only do these caramel and honey highlights look stunning and add dimension to curly strands, but they'll also grow out well without a whole lot of touch-ups needed. If you're looking for a low-maintenance colour for the monsoons, this is it.
