The moment we saw Zendaya walking the red carpet with her hair flowing behind in gorgeous messy waves, we knew that we had to recreate her hairstyle! A little research told us that her hairstyle is called mermaid waves, and is, in fact, one of the biggest hair trends of 2021.

A slightly messier version of beach waves, mermaid waves is the perfect summer hairstyle that is easy to recreate and looks extremely chic. But what we really love about this dreamy, fairy tale-esque hairstyle is how simple it is to recreate. Scroll down for an easy guide on how to recreate this stunning hairstyle in five quick and simple steps…

How to recreate mermaid waves – the biggest hair trend of 2021

Step 01: Start with gently brushing your hair to get rid of any knots and tangles. Also, since wavy hairdos last a lot longer on second day hair, brushing your strands will help in distributing the natural scalp oils for some natural shine and hold.
Step 02: Next, spray a generous amount of any texturizing hair spray starting from the mid length, going all the way to the ends. Follow it up with a heat protectant like the Tresemme Keratin Shine Heat Protectant Spray. This will give your hair enough hold, while preventing heat damage from the styling tool.
Step 03: Now take about two to four inch from the mid-length and twist it around the flat iron (yes, mermaid waves turn out better when created with a flat iron instead of a curling wand), hold it in place for five to seven seconds before letting it loose. This should deliver a nice soft wave.
Step 04: Repeat this process for the rest of your hair and gently run your fingers through your hair to separate the waves.
Step 05: Finally spray on a generous amount of the Tresemme Compressed Micro Mist Invisible Hold Natural Finish Smooth Hold Level 2 Hair Spray all over to prevent humidity from undoing those sexy mermaid waves!
