When it comes to runway hair looks, you can expect the best and brightest of the hair industry to showcase their best work. Inspired by the original creations from designers, these hair looks are a visual treat, even when they cannot be worn IRL. And even a global pandemic has been unable to stop these hair magicians from doing their thing and here are some of our favourite looks from the SS21 season.

For Fendi’s Milan Fashion Week 2021 representation, hair stylist Sam McKnight put his models in slick, rolled up sections, placed near the nape of their neck. The style was used to create various shapes, like the rounded square you see in the picture. We love that the stylists wanted to push the boundaries a little, yet keep it easy to do amongst the chaos of a fashion show backstage.

Erdem presented their collection in the woods, which matched the nature-inspired patterns on the clothes. About the hair, the lead hairstylist Anthony Turner said: “It was inspired in part by portraits of Lord Nelson's mistress, Lady Emma Hamilton. A gorgeous halo of hairline detail was created by curling the hair. The curls were then eased out to create an airy, modern texture, with dry shampoo used to enhance fluffiness. Finally, a white ribbon headband was added to provide a prim, aristocratic touch, and loose hair was pinned into a dishevelled bun at the crown.”

David Koma’s collection drew inspiration from the Tennis court and the sporty uniforms often seen there. The hair look for this collection was slicked back, hydrated locks mimicking the look of a sweaty sports person in the middle of an intense match. A well done, sexy wet hair look will always make our top faves lists and so did this one!

To match the surrealism of Mithridate’s fashion presentation, hairstylist Johanna Cree Brown created literal hair art out of models' tresses. Supported by encrusted barrette clips, the hairstyles followed unusual parting and were laid down to create lovely details on the models faces. That below the ear tuck made us realise how easy hair innovation can be by just switch up the rules a little bit!

Given the variety of hair products used, the models from Gareth Pugh’s fashion presentation must've had a difficult time washing their mane! From tinted brow gels used to weigh down bangs and feathered braids that cannot be executed without strong hold creams, these hair looks are indeed not for the faint hearted!
