Short hair gives the impression of a carefree attitude. With the innumerable options and styles to flaunt hair short, more women are opting for this stylish haircut and embracing the ‘short hair, don’t care’ motto. One of the reasons why most women cut their hair short is because it is low maintenance. However, just because you chopped off those long tresses, does not mean you compromise on your hair care routine.
To maintain your short haircut and look like a million bucks at all times, make sure you follow these five golden rules listed below:
- Rule #01: Use your fingers
- Rule #02: Reduce the use of styling products
- Rule #03: Get a trim every 3-6 weeks
- Rule #04: Use less shampoo and conditioner
- Rule #05: Avoid using a blow dryer
Rule #01: Use your fingers

It is alright if you don’t carry a hairbrush or comb in your handbag anymore because you don’t need to use it often. Since your hair is less likely to get tangled, simply use your fingers to style it as you want. Lift your hair at the roots to add volume.
Rule #02: Reduce the use of styling products

Opt for a hairstyle that does not require heat styling tools — flat irons, curling wand and blow dryers can cause damage to the hair shaft. One of the easiest ways to style short hair is by spritzing a texturising spray on damp hair before going to sleep and waking up with beautiful waves.
Rule #03: Get a trim every 3-6 weeks

Contrary to popular belief, when it comes to haircuts, short hair requires regular trims to maintain its shape and style. Your hair grows about half an inch per month; therefore, it is a good idea to get a trim every 3-6 weeks.
Rule #04: Use less shampoo and conditioner

This goes without saying — start using less amount of shampoo and conditioner while washing your hair. Short hair requires very little conditioner, so don’t apply the same quantity as before or you’ll end up weighing your hair down. Similarly, using more shampoo than required will make your hair frizzy and irritate the scalp.
Rule #05: Avoid using a blow dryer

Try to let your hair air dry as much as possible. Even if you do have to use a blow dryer, use it on a low heat setting. Short hair can get frizzy easily; therefore, it is recommended to stay away from hair dryers. Use the scrunching technique to add volume if you have too.
