3 ways you’re using your face wipes wrong

Facial wipes are slowly replacing water and cleanser, especially at night when you want to get straight to bed after a long working day. They are perfect for on-the-go cleansing, post-gym cleansing or when you’re super tired and have no energy to do the whole shebang. However, you should know that cleansing wipes are not for everyday use; not if you don’t follow it up with thorough cleansing with water and cleanser.

But is that the only mistake you’re making when it comes to facial wipes? Um, no. Experts recommend using wipes not more than twice a week because it leaves behind a lot of dirt, grime and oil. Here are a few more facial wipe mistakes you could be making and how they could be bad for your skin.

01. Not washing afterwards

03. Wiping your eyes last

Remember: Facial wipes are not a replacement for water and cleanser. Wipes contain surfactants and solubilizers that linger on the surface of the skin post-cleansing. When left on for too long, they can make your skin dry and cause irritation. If you’re travelling, correcting a makeup mistake or are too tired to wash your face, then and only then use a cleansing wipe. At other times, it's best to stick to your foaming face wash and water.

02. Wiping too hard

03. Wiping your eyes last

Aggressive rubbing of any kind — whether it's using your fingers or a facial wipe — is harsh for your skin. Even if you’re trying to remove waterproof makeup, use medium pressure and wipe in a long, downward direction. The active ingredients in the cleansing wipe will dissolve the makeup particles and help lift them with ease.

You wear the maximum number of makeup products on your eyes — and most of them are waterproof. We recommend starting with your eyes as this prevents bacteria and dirt of other parts of your face from entering the eyes. An easy trick is to fold the wipes into four and use each side for one part of the face. If possible use a different wipe for your eyes and face.
