When asked what rules everyone should follow if they want consistently soft, shiny hair, Heldt breaks it down into three clear, doable habits.
2026 is the year we collectively stop chasing every new hair trend and start focusing on what actually matters. Silky hair in 2026 isn't about owning a cupboard full of products or booking expensive salon treatments every month, it's about getting the basics right. To get the full download on how to make hair silky this year, we spoke to celebrity hairstylist Flavien Heldt about smarter routines, healthier habits, and truly understanding what your hair needs, not what trends tell you it should want.
From future-forward haircut trends to underrated haircare rituals we've all been guilty of skipping, this conversation felt like the kind of advice we wish we'd heard years ago. Honest, practical, and refreshingly simple. Here's everything you need to know to achieve the healthiest looking hair this year.

If there's one haircut that has been quietly ruling red carpets, moodboards, and salon request lists, it's the bob. Short, chic, and endlessly versatile, it's a style everyone seems to be gravitating towards and Heldt confirms it's here to stay. It's the best hairstyle for silky hair and you can definitely flaunt it this year.
"I see the bob dominating in 2026, the skirted bob, the sharp one, the blunt one, I see it all coming back slowly. I also see the curtain fringe and fringy pixie dominate 2026. As for texture, we're going to see something simple but more graphic, sharp and shiny," explains Heldt.
The common thread across these trends? Balance. Hair that looks polished but still feels real, healthy, and touchable. Think less stiffness, more movement. Less perfection, more personality. But that naturally raises the big question, how to make hair silky? How do you actually achieve a result where hair looks shiny, nourished, and well cared for every single day?

The answer isn't fancy techniques or complicated routines. In fact, it's something our mums and grandmothers have been telling us forever — oiling. Just not in the way we traditionally think of it.
According to Heldt, using a dry oil is one of the most underrated techniques for achieving silky, smooth hair. "A lot of people neglect this part. A dry oil is something you can carry with you and apply it easily through the day. Whenever your hair starts to feel a little dry or rough, you can apply some of the dry oil to your hair and it'll give your hair instant hydration and nutrition."
He also highlights another step many people tend to overlook — hair masks. He explains that relying solely on conditioner isn't always enough, especially for dry or damaged hair. Using a hair mask for silky hair helps replenish moisture, repair damage, and restore softness in a way daily conditioners simply can't.
"If you do this with certain consistency through the day or week, you're going to see a massive improvement in your hair with this gesture that barely takes 10 seconds," says Heldt.

When asked about his ultimate advice for long-term hair health, Heldt gave us a tip that feels more like a mindset shift. The kind of advice that works quietly in the background but delivers visible results over time, fewer bad hair days, better shine, and stronger strands that actually feel healthy. "The holy grail for long-term healthy hair according to me is consistency. That's the most efficient and necessary thing to achieve long-term healthy hair. If you dedicate some time to your haircare day after day, week after week, you'll see a drastic change in the quality of your hair and you'll see more shinier, stronger, healthier hair."

"First, always brush your hair with a soft brush at the end of the day. It will help remove most of the residue and dust your hair accumulated during the day.

"Second, using a high quality product like the Nexxus Promend Moisturise Collagenizing Shampoo and hair mask to increase the effect."

"Third, definitely using oil after using a hot tool. This is extremely important and the Promend Oil Resurrection is the best oil in the market for this."

Before you hop on to the habits that will help you maintain your silky hair, you need to repair your dry and damaged hair. So, what does the ideal repair routine actually look like? Heldt gives us the answer.
"First, always pick the right product. Second, use a mask twice a week to deeply nourish, hydrate and repair your hair. I recommend using the Nexxus Promend Repair Keratinizing Shampoo and Mask or you can eventually also use the Nexxus Promend Moisturise Collagenizing Hair mask. Third, always carry a bottle of dry oil in your handbag to apply to your hair anytime you feel your hair is dry or needs a boost of rejuvenation and hydration. And if you do all this consistently, you'll have marvelous hair."
The routine feels surprisingly manageable, focused on repair, hydration, and consistency rather than quick fixes. It's a reminder that damaged hair doesn't need punishment. It needs patience, nourishment, and the right care.
Silky, shiny hair in 2026 isn't about chasing perfection or copying trends blindly. It's about understanding your hair, respecting it, and giving it what it actually needs, not what trends scream at you to buy. With the right habits, a little professional wisdom, and trusted silky hair shampoo and masks, good hair days don't have to be rare anymore. And honestly? After this conversation, we're officially taking our hair more seriously, but in a kinder, smarter way.
