01. Blot your eyelids prior to applying makeup

If you have oily eyelids, smudged mascara might be an everyday issue for you. A great way to avoid this problem is to simply blot off the excess oil with the help of blotting paper or tissue to mattify the area. Follow this by applying a mattifying eyeshadow primer to keep excess oil in check.
02. Apply mascara primer

Mascara primer may seem like a useless product, but it is anything but that. It not only protects and strengthens your lashes, but also helps separate them to give a natural, fan-like finish. It also prevents your lashes from clumping, which is a really important thing when it comes to preventing mascara smudges.
03. Get rid of the excess product

A lot of times, having excess product on the mascara applicator is one of the main reasons why the product smudges onto your eyelids. Before applying mascara, wipe off the excess on a clean tissue paper and then apply it for best results.
04. Use some scotch tape

One of the best ways to prevent mascara smudges is by using scotch tape. Simply cut a small piece of scotch tape and stick it at the base of your lash line and then apply your mascara. Once the mascara has completely dried off, remove the scotch tape and voila!
