On World Chocolate Day, we give your even more reasons to indulge in chocolate, albeit in guilt-free ways. Did you know that chocolate is particularly good for your skin? It is a super-food for your skin and we give you some easy face masks you can whip up at home for glowing skin starring, yes, you guessed it, chocolate!

Why is chocolate good for the skin?

Chocolate is rich in antioxidants and they protect the skin from free-radical damage. This in turn, helps with anti-ageing care. When applied directly onto skin as a mask, it deeply nourishes and softens skin as it is rich in fats. It increases the production of collagen and lightens marks.

So what are you waiting for? Go on, grab a bowl and the following ingredients and start mixing!
For marks on the skin

For marks on the skin

You will need:

1 tbsp. cacoa powder (unsweetened, the kind that is used for baking)
½ tsp. cinnamon powder
1 tbsp. honey

Combine the above ingredients in a bowl to make a smooth paste. Apply it on your skin and allow it to rest for 15-20 minutes. Rinse with cold water.

Why this works:
Honey and chocolate provide rich nourishment and are great sources of antioxidants. Cinnamon is a good exfoliating agent that sloughs away dead skin cells thus revealing newer skin cells. It also helps reduce the appearance of spot and marks.

You will need:

1 bar 70% cacao dark chocolate
½ cup milk
1 tsp. sea salt
3 tsp. brown sugar

Melt the dark chocolate in the microwave. Allow it to cool, and combine all the other ingredients into the liquid chocolate. Apply it while it is still runny on your face and neck. Allow it to sit for 20-30 minutes and rinse it off with cold water.

Why this works:
This is rich in antioxidants and deeply nourishes your skin. The grainy texture of the salt and the sugar help with gently exfoliating the skin.

Toning face mask

Toning face mask

You will need:

½ cup melted chocolate
1 banana
1 cup strawberry
1 cup water melon

Although this sounds like a good recipe for a decadent dessert, it is actually a great face mask. Combine all the above ingredients in a blender and apply it on your face and allow it to sit for 20-30 minutes. Rinse it off with cold water.

Why this works:
This face mask is excellent at calming the skin. Banana and chocolate nourish the skin, while the strawberry and the watermelon tone the skin.
