Even though a moisturiser is one of the most basic and essential steps in any skincare routine, you'd be surprised to know that there are many women out there who’re not making the most of the product simply because they don’t know how to apply it correctly.
Simply scooping some out from the tub and rubbing it all over your face may be a reflex, but that’s not enough to ensure your skin remains well-hydrated for the rest of the day. That’s why we’ve put together a comprehensive that will not only teach you how to apply moisturiser but also help you pick the right moisturiser depending on your skin type.
How to choose the right moisturiser?
Using the wrong moisturiser can cause problems like breakouts, dullness and excessive oiliness. That’s why it’s important to choose your moisturiser, keeping your skin type in mind. If you have dry skin, pick a moisturiser with a heavier and richer consistency like the Lakmé Absolute Argan Oil Radiance Oil-in-Creme SPF 30 PA ++. In contrast, those with oily skin should opt for a more lightweight, oil-free formula like the Pond’s Super Light Gel Oil Free Moisturiser. For sensitive skin, we love the baddie-free Simple Kind to Skin Hydrating Light Moisturiser.
How to apply moisturiser
Step 01: The first step in ensuring that your moisturiser delivers the desired results is to start on a clean slate. Wash your face with a gentle face wash like the Pears Ultra Mild Facewash – Pure & Gentle. This step helps eliminate any makeup residue, impurities, oil and sweat that might clog the pores and cause breakouts.
Step 02: Gently dab your face using a clean towel to dry it and follow it up with a gentle toner like Lakmé Absolute Pore Fix Toner. Cleansing can disrupt the pH balance of your skin and make it feel excessively dry or oily. A toner rebalances the pH levels of the skin and helps the products penetrate better into your skin.
Step 03: Now would be a good time to apply your moisturiser. Your moisturiser offers maximum benefits when applied immediately after cleansing and toning while your skin is slightly damp. This helps the product absorb better into your skin and lock in hydration. Take a pea-sized amount of the product and dot it all over your face and neck. Gently massage the product into your skin using circular, upward strokes.
Step 04: After applying moisturiser, it is essential to lock in the hydration by following it up with a thicker product such as a facial oil, especially if you have dry skin. This will seal hydration into the skin and keep the skin super soft, supple and intensely hydrated.
