Should you triple cleanse your face? We investigate

We've heard of double cleansing. But triple cleansing? That’s new. Another K-beauty trend. It sounds a little…excessive, doesn't it? Before you buy into the trend because it comes from K-beauty—or TikTok—and decide to drench your face in three cleansers, you must know something. This skin care trend isn't for everyone. Scroll down to find out if you should be triple cleansing your face or not.

How do you triple cleanse your face?

Is triple cleansing necessary?

Double cleansing is a cherished skincare ritual we've adopted from Korea. And it claims to cleanse our skin thoroughly. It involves cleansing the skin with an oil-based cleanser first, and then, with a water-based one. But triple cleansing takes it up a notch.

There are multiple ways you can triple cleanse. The idea is to incorporate three separate cleansers into your regimen. It's said that an extra round of cleansing can rid your skin of residual build-up, and enables skincare formulas to absorb into your skin effectively.

Some start off by cleansing their faces with an oil-based cleanser, move on to a cream-based cleanser, and conclude with a foaming cleanser. Another variation involves cleansing your face with a makeup or cleansing wipe, following it up with a cleansing oil, and finally, a foaming cleanser.

A triple cleanse can benefit those working in hot environments or who have on-field jobs. Or anyone who wears heavy makeup on an everyday basis. If you have a normal skin type, use a lot of SPF, and are exposed to environmental damage frequently, a multi-step regimen is ideal.

But cleansing too much can lead to other issues. If your skin is acne-prone, excessive cleansing can strip your skin of natural oils, stimulate the production of oil, and eventually, acne. And for conditions like eczema and psoriasis, it can irritate the skin, lead to inflammation, redness, dryness, and soreness.

In conclusion, you've got to listen to your skin. For most of us, multi-step cleansing is fine when done once in a while. If you want to try it out, we have a few suggestions for you. You can use the Lakmé Absolute Argan Oil Radiance Rinse Off Cleansing Oil as your oil-based cleanser. This formula eliminates layers of excess sebum (oil), sunscreen, waterproof makeup, environmental pollutants, and residual products that build up on your skin throughout the day. Go on to cleanse your face with the Lakmé 9to5 Matte Moist Clay Facewash. With pure green tea extracts and mineral clays like Bentonite and Kaolin, this one detoxifies the skin and keeps it matte-looking. Lastly, conclude with the Lakmé Absolute Perfect Radiance Brightening Facial Foam. This one strengthens your skin barrier and brightens and moisturises your skin.
