Sometimes, dealing with dry skin seems just so difficult. Irrespective of how much moisturiser you apply or how often you blast that humidifier, it seems impossible to get rid of that dry, tight feeling, doesn’t it? But in our quest to find a simple solution to eliminate skin dryness once and for all, we came across a somewhat buzzy term called ‘moisture sandwich’.

Developed by the CEO of a famous skincare brand, this moisturising technique is a unique way to trap moisture into your skin and prevent trans-epidermal water loss. Confused, much? Well, don’t be because we are about to break it down for you. Scroll down to understand what is moisture sandwich and what makes it a saviour for those with dry and damaged skin types.

What is a moisture sandwich?

What is a moisture sandwich?

A moisture sandwich is a way of layering your skincare products to trap moisture into your skin and prevent trans-epidermal water loss. To break it down further, this method encourages you to start by putting on super-light, watery skincare products on damp skin and then layering thicker moisturisers and oils to keep your skin plump, healthy and moisturised.

But we know what you’re thinking – this is something I anyway do, so what’s different? Well, the difference here is that instead of simply applying product after product according to their consistency, in a moisture sandwich, you’re going to want to dampen your skin with either a face mist or even simple tap water in between each layer to seal the moisture for a longer period of time.

While we completely understand why misting your face with tap water or face mist between each step seems too much, trust us, it will completely transform dry skin. It helps trap moisture into the skin and allows your skincare products to penetrate better, giving you healthy, radiant skin.

What’s the process like?

What’s the process like?

Step 01: To create a moisture sandwich, start with cleansing your face with a gentle moisturising cleanser like Simple Kind to Skin Micellar Cleansing Water. Follow this up with an alcohol-free toner like the Lakmé Absolute Pore Fix Toner.

Step 02: Now, before your toner is completely absorbed into your skin, apply a couple of drops of the Lakmé Absolute Argan Oil Radiance Overnight Oil-in-Serum and massage it into your skin. Pretty basic until now, right?

Step 03: This is the step where the actual process of sandwiching begins. Before applying your next skincare product, dampen your skin with another round of a facial mist or even tap water and follow it up with about two drops of the Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Booster and pat it in.

Step 04: For the final step, again mist your face and then follow it up with a thick occlusive cream like the Vaseline Original Pure Skin Jelly to seal in all the moisture from the previous products and prevent water loss. Repeat this process every night to wake up to healthy, moisturised and plump skin in the morning.
