Wrinkles and fine lines are a sign for most of us that we’re getting older — like okay skin; we get the message and don’t appreciate the constant reminder. But honestly, it's much easier to crack the code of slowing down the wrinkle process than we could’ve thought. So here we got you five faux-pas that are causing wrinkles, fine lines or ageing before your time. Read on to know the worst mistakes to avoid your skin from going cray-cray.
- 01. Sleeping on your stomach
- 02. Rubbing your eyes
- 03. Avoiding anti-ageing products
- 04. Poor lifestyle choices
- 05. Bad skincare habits
01. Sleeping on your stomach

When you sleep on your stomach, your face is rested on the pillow and the weight of your head applies constant pressure against your skin and creates the ‘sleep marks’. Over time, these creases can become permanent wrinkles. Apart from that, stomach sleeping causes excess fluid retention which gives you that puffy-eyed morning look. Another tip is to switch to satin pillow covers to avoid the excess friction between your face and pillow while you train yourself to sleep on your back (start now).
02. Rubbing your eyes

Rubbing your eyes at the end of the day just when you’re about to fall asleep is an underrated yet heavenly feeling, isn’t it? But this has to stop, stat! The skin around your eye is very thin and delicate, and the constant tugging and pulling can cause the collagen in your skin to break down. This, in turn, makes the skin loose, saggy and wrinkly.
03. Avoiding anti-ageing products

Most of us feel there’s no need to use anti-ageing products without any signs of ageing. Why tackle a problem that’s not even there right? Wrong. Using anti-ageing before signs become visible is an effective way of delaying or slowing down the process. So start investing in good peptide and vitamin A skincare products from your mid-20s to avoid looking older than you are.
04. Poor lifestyle choices

Smoking is the most common cause of wrinkles around the eyes and lips. Excessive drinking also causes dehydration and negatively impacts the levels of vitamin A in your body. Vitamin A is an important antioxidant that aids in the regeneration of skin cells and collagen. Also, avoid junk food with excess sugar because it can cause puffiness and a gradual loss in skin elasticity. Instead, snack on fruits, nuts and yoghurt. One other really silly reason is using a straw. As you purse your lips to drink through a straw you are paving way for wrinkles around your lips.
05. Bad skincare habits

It’s very important to understand and communicate with your skin better to avoid fine lines and wrinkles. Following a regular exfoliation routine will help get rid of dulling dead cells, and hard-to-reach dirt and grime that accumulates in pores making your skin look sallow and old. Many of us tend to focus all our anti-ageing potions and serums on our faces, ignoring neck, chest and hands. Well, this results in the face looking relatively younger than the rest of our body parts. We certainly don’t want that now do we? The next thing to avoid is picking at your zits, no matter how tempting it might be to pop that bump and go about your day! Picking or squeezing can drive acne bacteria deeper into the skin, leading to more inflammation and even wrinkles. Lastly, don’t sleep on sunscreen. Exposure to the sun for even a few minutes can cause the collagen to break down so make sure you always have sunscreen on you and reapply throughout the day.
