Back to basics: 5 skin acids to use for healthy skin

It’s no secret that skin-perfecting face acids can change your skincare game for good. These trending skincare ingredients are a rage among beauty enthusiasts.

However, given the number of options available in the market, choosing and using the right one can be challenging. But then, which new beauty product doesn’t seem complicated at first, right?

Today, we are going to give you a 101 on skin acids and how to use them for healthy skin. Keep reading to find out.

01. Hyaluronic acid

05.Azelaic acid

The most well-known moisturising acid out there, hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in skin tissues. It helps retain and seal in moisture, protects from environmental damage and makes your skin ultra-smooth and soft. You can find this acid in serums and face creams. If you’ve got extremely dry and flaky skin, this is the face acid you should stock up on.

02. Salicylic acid

05.Azelaic acid

The much-hyped face acid of all, salicylic acid is the acne-fighting weapon you need in your skincare if you get pimples every now and then. It is a beta hydroxy acid (BHA) that can not only clear your skin of acne but also treat psoriasis, melisma and ageing issues like dark spots. Use it as a spot treatment for acne or use skincare products like serums and cleansers formulated with salicylic acid for healthy skin.

03. Mandelic acid

05.Azelaic acid

Mandelic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that is found in bitter almonds. It is a gentler exfoliating acid than other AHAs and doesn’t irritate the skin. Thus, it is best suited for sensitive skin types. Apart from preventing acne, it can also treat sun damage, slow down signs of ageing and reduce pigmentation. It can be used on oily skin as it helps clear out excess oil and leaves the skin fresh and oil-free. You can use a night cream, peel or exfoliating cleanser that has mandelic acid in it.

04. Glycolic acid

05.Azelaic acid

An anti-ageing potion in disguise, glycolic acid is another AHA, derived from sugarcane and pineapple. It is a mild exfoliant that penetrates into the skin, gets rid of dead skin and unlocks a bright and youthful complexion. Skincare products like serums, cleansers and peels are often infused with glycolic acid.

05.Azelaic acid

05.Azelaic acid

Found in grains such as wheat, rye and barley, azelaic acid contains anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. It is an acne-fighting acid that’s a godsend for acne-prone, oily and sensitive skin. It helps fight bacteria, clean pores and lighten acne scars. A lot of acne treatment creams are formulated with a small percentage of it. You can also combine it with retinoids and use it on your face twice a day to get clear and bright skin.
