Winter is a tough season for your skin. Your skin tends to get dry very quickly and you are probably, responsible for that yourself. Some mistakes you make while taking a shower can cause serious skin dryness.
Here are some super simple shower tips to prevent winter dryness and maintain your skin's glow...
Do not bathe in very hot water as it removes all the moisture from your skin. Hot water strips down all the essential oils secreted by your skin and makes it ultra-dry. Keep the water slightly warm and avoid showering in hot water for longer durations. Limit your time in the shower or bath to 5-10 minutes.
Use bathing soaps and gels that are sulphate free. Sulphate dries out your skin and with overtime use can lead to eczema. Presence of sulphate in soaps also leads to damage in the texture of your skin causing it to look rough and lifeless.
Do not exfoliate or scrub your body too often as it may lead to slight minor cuts that can cause excessive dryness. Too much exfoliation can sometimes lead to stripping of natural oils from your skin which can worsen skin dryness.
Rinse the remaining soap thoroughly. If it is left over on your skin, it may cause dryness and itching. Soaps also have chemicals present in them which can act harshly on your skin if left behind.
Avoid using rough towels after bathing as your skin is in a sensitive and delicate mode. Instead, opt for a softer towel that is gentle on your skin and pat dry your skin. Do not completely dry your skin with the towel and leave some water on for your skin to soak.
Always finish by applying a gentle moisturiser after your bath to make sure your pores absorb the nutrients. Your pores absorb the best after a warm bath so make sure you use a highly nourishing moisturiser that is full of nutrients and vitamins.
Give your body a full oil massage at least once in a week to completely nourish and hydrate it. This helps in maintaining a healthy natural oil cycle of your skin and adds extra shine to your skin in the dry weather.
