When it comes to saving the environment, every little bit helps. From using recyclable products to planting trees, it is important to take small steps to save the planet, because unfortunately, there is no planet B.

A good place to begin this would be your beauty products. This is one area that causes a major strain on the eco-system, but with a few changes, you can consciously find ways to reduce this damage to the environment. We understand if you’re not quite ready to commit to a zero-waste lifestyle just yet, but that does not mean you can’t do your bit for the environment. You would be surprised to find out that it is actually very easy to make small tweaks to your beauty habits for better sustainability.

Because we at Bebeautiful believe in celebrating World Environment Day every day, here are a few simple ways to make your routine greener and cleaner...

Recycle jars and containers

Recycle jars and containers

The empty jars and containers of your favourite serums, moisturisers and cleansers don’t have to go to waste, as they can be reused in a variety of ways. The smaller containers can be used to decant products into them for when you travel. They can also be used to store things such as cotton swabs, bobby pins, and hair ties.

Use stainless steel razors

Use stainless steel razors

In case you prefer to shave as a hair removal method, then you can trade your plastic or disposable razor for a reusable, stainless steel one. Not only are these razors more eco-friendly, they also give you a closer, cleaner shave and leads to less ingrown hair.

Opt for reusable cotton pads

Opt for reusable cotton pads

Thanks to our stringent morning and night time CTM routines, we tend to burn through pack after pack of cotton pads. These one-time use cotton pads end up creating a lot of waste and are harmful to the environment. You can switch to reusable cotton pads or terry cloth ones are a great eco-friendly option for removing your makeup. Post cleaning your makeup, throw them in for a wash and they’ll be as good as new.

Use multi-tasking products

Use multi-tasking products

One of the best ways to cut down on waste is to use multi-tasking products. By using a single product that addresses two things instead of one, you’re not only simplifying your beauty routine, but also saving on waste, packaging and plastic usage. A highlighter palette can easily double up as a shimmery shadow, and your fave eyeshadow palette can sometimes double up for contouring, blush, and highlighting.

Use microfiber cloths

Another great eco-friendly way to remove your makeup is to use microfiber cloths. These remove makeup more thoroughly than a cotton pad and can be easily washed and reused. Microfiber cloths can also be used when washing your face and exfoliating. Just make sure to clean the cloths regularly to avoid transferring dirt and bacteria back onto your skin!
