Tell us if this sounds familiar. You cram your skincare, makeup and hair products and tools all in one drawer thinking who has got the time in the world to sort it out and keep them where they should be kept. Guilty, are you? Storing your beauty products the right way is not just about clearing your clutter but also about keeping them safe, hygienic and increasing their shelf life. So, let’s show you how you can put your organising skills to use and store your beauty products and tools the right way.
Keeping your skincare products in the bathroom seems convenient and easy but it’s totally not ok! The damp surroundings can breed bacteria and the heat from a hot shower can cause the ingredients in your skincare products to oxidise and break down. Keep your serums, night creams, face masks and eye creams in the fridge and the rest of the products like moisturisers, lotions and lip balm in a closed cabinet away from moisture and sunlight.
First things first, wash your makeup tools like brushes and beauty blenders and only store them when they are completely dry. Store them in a clean, dry place in a separate container. Keep your liquid-y makeup products in just the right temperature, not too hot and not too cold, and your powdery products in a dry place. As far as your lipsticks and nail polishes are concerned, the best place to keep them is in the room temperature rather than in the fridge.
Hair products like shampoos and conditioners can be stored in your bathroom shelf but make sure you keep them tightly closed. Hair oils, on the other hand, shouldn’t ever be kept in the fridge as they tend to separate in cold temperatures. Keep them in dark and dry places to preserve their potency. Hair tools especially the electric ones like straighteners, blow dryers and curling irons should be kept in a dry place (again, bathroom shelf is a no-no). Clean your hair brushes every day and place them in a drawer to keep bacteria and germs away.
