A shout-out to skincare junkies! Up until now, we picked skincare products by detecting our skin type—dry, oily, combination—all by ourselves. But, did you know that there’s a better way of analysing your skin? Yes, and it tells you exactly what your problems are too. We’re talking about face mapping, girls!

Dermalogica just introduced us to the concept at the launch of their new range of multi-tasking products and we’re in awe!

Hinaa Khan, Education Head, Dermalogica India explains that, “Face mapping is Dermalogica’s unique concept where you divide the face into different imaginary zones to analyse the skin specifically using the latest skin analysis techniques.” The face mapping skin analysis procedure provides the skincare expert with an objective view of the skin's condition as well as an indication of the issues that might be affecting it.

To put it simply, the method enables you to make more effective skincare decisions. And that’s exactly why Ami Palan of the BB Beauty Squad (who also happens to be a skincare noob) got her face mapping done. Here’s her experience...

what is face mapping

“Being a skincare newbie, my skincare choices are usually influenced by beauty bloggers, but that hasn’t always turned out well for me. So when I recently got the chance to try the face mapping skin trend, I knew I had to try it.

The expert appointed to me asked me a few basic questions to begin with. From my skin type and the products I use to the skin treatments I’ve recently indulged in, I spilled all the deets. Post which she analysed my skin and pointed out a few main skin concerns such as pigmentation around the lips and nose area (I hadn’t ever noticed it before), comedones on my forehead, cheeks and chin, oiliness on my nose, cheeks and forehead, a little sensitivity on my cheeks and some dehydrated patches too.

She then went on to suggest products to help me deal with all of it—exfoliant, moisturiser and sunscreen. The part I liked most though was the demo she gave me of the treatment.

She started of by cleansing my skin using the Dermalogica Precleanse to help me get rid of all the dirt and grime sitting on the surface of my skin. She then used the Dermalogica Daily Superfoliant to deal with skin-ageing triggers and followed it up with the Dermalogica AGE Bright Spot Fader. Lastly, she applied the Dermalogica Skin Smoothing Cream and ended with sunscreen ‘cause what routine is complete without it, right?

I was definitely impressed with everything I learned about my skin through the face mapping process. What’s more, it helped me identify a skincare routine that could work for me. So yes, I highly recommend you try it, especially if you have no clue what your skin concerns are or how to fix them.
