Ever wondered why whenever you visit a spa you just don’t feel like getting out of there? There’s something about the products they use, in addition to the soothing music and a candle-lit ambience that adds to a wonderful overall experience for you. You know what we’re talking about - Essential oils! Essential oils make everything better and are power-packed with skin benefiting properties. They’re used in almost every treatment/massage that you get in spas too! But, visiting spas all the time means paying through the nose all the time. Who wants that? Our solution is including essential oils in your skin care routine for max benefits and a spa like experience. Here’s how you can do it…
Mix it with your body lotion
Adding a few drops of your favourite essential oil to your body lotion can instantly speed up the moisturization process and give you combined goodness of both your body lotion and the essential oil. We recommend using the Dove Nourishing Secrets Glowing Ritual Body Lotion combined with Sandalwood essential oil for best results. Just add the essential oil to the lotion and shake well. The lotion contains lotus flower extract known for its soothing and calming properties along with rice milk that deeply moisturizes your skin. Sandalwood essential oil contains anti-inflammatory properties that help get rid of scars, dry, itchy skin and also gives a cooling effect to the skin. This concoction will give your skin the goodness of all these ingredients leaving it soft, supple and hydrated! Apply before you go to bed and wake up to gorgeous skin with this mixture. This will work best during the winters for your dry skin.
Add some to your body wash
You can mix a few drops of essential oil in your body wash too! If you use a body wash that’s organic and unscented, the essential oils will help add fragrance too along with other skin benefits. We recommend using the most versatile Lavender essential oil for this! It detoxifies your skin, tightens it, moisturizes it and leaves a lingering fragrance. It’s so good you will constantly want to shower.
Essential oil lip scrub
A good, hydrating lip balm is one winter essential that you just shouldn’t go without. If your lips dry out a lot and you still haven’t found a lip product that can deal with your stubborn lips, we have a solution for you! Take 1tbsp of coconut oil and add 15 drops of Frankincense and Lavender essential oil each to it. Then add some sugar and mix well. Scrub your lips with the formula to exfoliate and get rid of every dry skin cell there is on your lips. Frankincense oil helps tighten your skin, lavender helps heal it while coconut oil moisturizes.
Mask it up
We’re all aware of aloe vera being a gift from the skin Gods to us because of its natural healing and moisturizing properties! Using natural aloe vera gel in the winters is strongly recommended to keep your skin hydrated but did you know you could add an essential oil to it and use it as a mask too? Carrot seed essential oil is not only known for its anti-ageing properties, but also is rich in Vitamin-A and Beta- carotene, both of which are known to keep your skin supple and prevent damage from free radicals. Mix 5-6 drops of carrot seed essential oil to 1/4th cup of aloe vera gel and apply the mask to your face and leave it on for 15 minutes. This will hydrate your skin and also give you an enviable glow!
Foot spa at home
Your feet go through a lot in winters, from dead skin to hard, cracked heels and flaky bits of skin that you’re constantly peeling out. And while we invest a lot of time in taking care of our face, body and hair during the winters, we conveniently ignore the poor feet. They need hydration too and here’s how you can achieve it without any fuss whatsoever. Fill up a mason jar with white sugar, add half a cup of coconut oil, 10 drops of peppermint essential oil and mix well. Coconut oil will moisturize your skin, sugar will get rid of all the dead skin cells and lastly, peppermint essential oil relaxes your sore feet and refreshes them.
Remember to test each of these oils on your skin to see whether you’re allergic to any of them. Now that you know the different ways you can incorporate essential oils in your skincare routine, go ahead and show your skin some love with them this winter!
