Using your regular skincare products seems like NBD. Rub a scrub, slather moisturiser and pat on some SPF; seems easy-peasy, right? Well, it is. But did you know, little things like massaging the product longer than required or applying it wrong can cost you spotless skin and a flawless complexion? Yes, you read that right. Simply following a skincare routine isn’t going to give you the skin of your dreams if you don’t use the products to their maximum potential.
How do you do that? Read on as we explain how to make the most of your skincare staples.
A face wash is something you cannot start or end your day without, right? But using it correctly is the key to getting all the dirt and grime off your face. Dampen your face after removing all traces of makeup and apply a dollop of your face wash. Massage it for half a minute (follow the 30-second rule) and rinse off with cold water.
It is scary how easy it is to go wrong with this skincare product. Over-exfoliating, scrubbing too firmly and leaving out the important zones are few of mistakes you need to avoid making. Take a dime-sized amount of your scrub and gently rub it on your face in circular motions, using your fingertips. Don’t forget the blackhead-prone areas like the chin, nose and forehead. Scrub twice a week if you have dry, normal or sensitive skin and thrice if you have oily and combination skin.
As soon as you are done with cleansing, exfoliating and toning, you should reach for your moisturiser. Take a generous amount of moisturiser and apply it on slightly damp skin to help it penetrate deeper. Slather it on gently and tap your skin after for better absorption. Plus, don’t forget to apply it on the often-neglected parts like your neck, back of the ears and sides of the nose.
Firstly, kudos to you for swearing by an SPF daily! Secondly, we hope you are not just applying it once a day or, worst, only in summers. You should be applying your sunscreen all year round, no matter if it’s sunny, raining or snowing outside. Save your skin from the radical damage by applying sunscreen right after your moisturiser and reapplying three to four times throughout the day.
There’s nothing quite like pampering your skin with a face mask on a lazy Sunday. Not only is it a relaxing activity but leaves you with clear and glowing skin. However, make sure to clean your hands before you reach for your face mask. Remember: applying too much won’t result in better results. If you’re using a clay or cream mask, a thick enough layer that covers your face will be enough. Don’t leave it on for longer than the specified time mentioned on the packaging.
