- 01. Prep your skin
- 02. Hair length matters
- 03. Pick the right wax
- 04. Moisturise after wax
- 05. Don’t skip exfoliation
01. Prep your skin
For a smooth and quick wax session, it’s important to prep the skin beforehand. Wash the area and pat dry with a towel. Sprinkle some powder to absorb moisture from the skin and help the wax stick properly. This will ensure your hair comes off in one swift motion.
02. Hair length matters
Remember the golden rule of waxing—your hair should be at least quarter to half an inch in length so that the wax can grip the hair well. Wait for four to six weeks between two waxes. Waxing hair shorter than that is tricky, painful and won’t give you a smooth finish. Basically, pointless.
03. Pick the right wax
There’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to waxing. Hard wax is used for smaller areas like the underarms, bikini line and face, while soft wax is used for wider areas like your hands, legs and back.
Opt for fruit wax if you have sensitive skin and sugar wax if you have oily skin.
04. Moisturise after wax
Wax can leave your skin extremely dry and, not to mention, irritated, red and itchy. Clean the wax with a damp washcloth and moisturise your skin with a soothing body lotion. If you have sensitive skin, apply some aloe vera gel post-waxing to soothe the redness.
05. Don’t skip exfoliation
Proper skincare post-wax is non-negotiable. Keep your skin well-moisturised and exfoliate regularly to get rid of dead skin cells and ingrown hair. Scrub the waxed skin with a mild body scrub twice a week to keep it smooth and soft.
