Sure you’re stuck at home with no access to your favourite salon or parlour aunty. But that’s no excuse for dull skin or breakouts, girl. Cleansing your face is extremely important to maintain a healthy and glowing complexion. And no, washing your face isn’t enough. A regular clean-up is what you need to get rid of dead skin cells, debris, dirt, blackheads and whiteheads. Moreover, it will keep the skin hydrated for a long time.
So if you’ve ever wondered how to get that salon-style clean up at home, then you’ve come to the right place. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to do face clean-up at home. Watch the video for all the details.
Step 01: Precleanse Start off by preparing the skin for the clean up session by removing existing dirt, oil and grime. For this, the Simple Kind to Skin Facial Cleansing Wipes are super handy. Follow this up by cleaning your face with a micellar water-soaked cotton pad. Sure, this is an added step, but trust me, it is going to make sure that your skin is squeaky clean.
Step 02: Cleanse After the precleanse, comes the cleansing step. Use products that are gentle on your skin and do not strip away the natural oils from the skin's surface.
Step 03: Steam Now this is usually the most dreaded part of a clean up - steaming. But steaming is essential in the cleanup process as it softens and opens up clogged pores, which means it paves the way for dirt extraction from them. Give your face a good steam for about 10 to 15 minutes and then use a blackhead remover to clean up.
Step 04: Scrub Follow this up with a good scrub to get rid of dead skin cells and restore your skin’s glow. I like using the Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant as it contains tiny cleansing particles that effectively scrub the skin without damaging it. Mix a little bit of water in the scrub and start scrubbing the face.
Step 05 : Face Pack/ Mask Now that you have exfoliated the skin, it's time for face masking. For this cleanup, I have used the Lakme Blush & Glow Strawberry Face Mask that instantly brightens the skin, revealing a blushing glow. Apply the face mask all over the face and neck and keep it on for about 10 to 15 minutes and then rinse it off.
Step 06: Tone and Treat Now comes the fun part, using rose water ice cubes to tone and treat your skin. Pour some rose water in an ice tray and then top it off with some chopped rose petals. Freeze them till they turn into ice cubes and then use them to tone the skin. Rose water is a great natural toner and it's so gentle and soothing for the skin. After this, use a hydrating gel to get that gorgeous glass-skin effect.
Step 07: Sunscreen And finally, before you step out, always make sure to protect your skin with sunscreen, especially because your skin is more sensitive just after a cleanup. That’s pretty much how you do a facial cleanup at home. So try it during this lockdown, and you may just decide you don’t need your parlour aunty anymore!
