Thanks to the constant sweating, excessive oiliness and the harsh sun rays, our skin goes through a lot during the summers. While some people only develop mild dryness or acne, there are a lot of us who end up having to deal with problems such as inflammation, redness and even heat rashes. If these sound like familiar problems, then you have come to the right place. Scroll down for four simple tips on how to calm irritated skin that is prone to rashes this summer.

01. Wash the area with cold water

Apart from using the right skincare products for irritated skin, there are other things one needs to follow. Even though hot water showers feel great at the end of a long, tiring day, they don’t really do your skin any favours. Hot water strips your skin of essential moisture, leaving it dry and more prone to damage and inflammation. In case you’re dealing with a heat rash, make sure to wash the area with cold water to soothe your skin. Also, avoid using a body wash or soap with harsh chemicals to prevent the chances of sensitivity and further inflammation.

02. Use a soothing moisturiser

The best way to calm angry, irritated skin is to moisturise it. But instead of picking just about any moisturiser, look for something that is enriched with soothing such as aloe vera, oats, calendula, etc. Applying a lightweight moisturiser helps in instantly calming inflammation, reduces redness as well as itching.

03. Protect your skin with sunscreen

If you don’t already wear sunscreen, we suggest you do so right now. These babies not just prevent tanning, but also protect your skin against common problems such as sunburn, prickly heat and rashes. But instead of only applying the sunscreen just to your face, make sure to apply a generous amount of it on your hands, feet and any other exposed part of your body for maximum protection.

04. Wear breathable fabrics

The kind of clothes you choose to wear during the summers is also extremely important in calming down irritated skin. This is because trapped sweat and clogged pores are a major cause of skin irritation in the summer, and wearing synthetic fabrics makes this worse. This is because synthetic fabrics trap sweat into your skin and don’t allow your skin to breathe. Therefore, it is important to wear light-coloured cotton fabrics that allow maximum breathability, help your skin heal and prevent future rashes.
