If you’re a beauty junkie, then you’ve probably been brought up on dadi maa ke nuskhe.

While coconut oil champis were the only oil massages we knew back then to achieve healthy, luscious locks, turmeric or haldi was the go-to skincare ingredient we used for brightening the skin and fading dark spots.

However, you’ll be happy to know that haldi can do a lot more than just brighten your skin.

From treating acne to calming inflammation, this little spice that has a secured place in your kitchen shelf is a miracle in a bottle. If you’re into DIY beauty recipes, then this article is just for you!

This age-old ingredient has antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties that cure pimples, reduces hyperpigmentation and fights acne scars.

While you don’t want to stick your face in a container of a stained bright yellow powder, mixing it with other calming, hydrating and skin-loving ingredients can do wonders to your skin.

Here are three DIY face packs for acne, inflamed and sensitive skin.

For inflamed skin

For inflamed skin

Factors such as over-exposure to the sun and some specific ingredients can cause inflammation. When something harmful or irritating affects the skin, it causes rashes, redness, swelling, itching and dryness. Turmeric can be your best bet when it comes to treating inflamed skin.

To prepare a turmeric-infused face mask for inflamed skin, you will need:

  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 tablespoon almond oil
  • 3 tablespoons milk

To use: Mix the ingredients well until the mask is smooth and creamy. Make sure it is not too runny. Apply the mask evenly on your face. Let it sit for about 15 minutes before rinsing with cool water.

Since turmeric tends to stain your face, it’s best to include a greasy barrier in your DIY mask. Here, almond oil owing to its high dose of Vitamin E helps keep the skin stain-free and softens and calms itchy, irritated and inflamed skin.

For sensitive skin

For sensitive skin

Sensitive skin is the most difficult to tackle. When a skincare product, makeup product or soap causes a reaction, it is a sign that you have sensitive skin.

Sensitive skin often leads to conditions such as excessive dryness, eczema and rosacea, to name a few. In such cases, turmeric can be of great help!

To prepare a turmeric-infused face mask for sensitive skin, you will need:

  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon rose water
  • ½ teaspoon aloe vera gel

To use: Apply the mixture gently all over your face. Leave it on for about 10 minutes before rinsing off with cool water.

Since this DIY mask recipe has rose water, it will have a runny consistency so don’t expect it to be a drying mask.

To keep turmeric stains at bay, either apply a face oil before you go over with the mask or simply add a few drops of oil to the mixture. With ingredients like aloe vera and rose water, this DIY face mask is a miracle elixir for all those with sensitive skin.

Aloe vera is loaded with antioxidants, vitamins, enzymes and anti-inflammatory properties which helps calm redness and soothes irritation. Rosewater, on the other, has anti-bacterial properties that aid in healing scars, cuts and wounds.

For acne

For acne

Acne is your skin’s worst enemy. When the pores of your skin are blocked with oil, dead skin cells and bacteria, it gives rise to acne. The good news is that turmeric can help treat this skin condition.

To prepare a turmeric-infused face mask for acne-prone skin, you will need:

2 tablespoons of turmeric powder

1 tablespoon of rice flour

1 tablespoon of honey

2 tablespoons of milk (for oily skin) OR 2 tablespoons coconut oil (for dry skin)

To use: Apply the mixture all over your face and let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes. Then rinse with your regular facial cleanser and follow it up with a moisturiser.

Pair these masks with turmeric infused face wash for best results. The Lever Ayush Anti Pimple Turmeric Face Wash detoxifies skin, fights acne and leave skin looking glowing and smooth.
