acne fighting ingredients you need to know about

acne fighting ingredients you need to know about
Ugh. Acne. Teenage girls’ biggest problem (apart from boys, of course)! Your teens are when you begin seeing the early signs of acne, and when it develops further, you know you probably have the tendency to breakout more. This could be because of many reasons, your pores could be clogged with oil and dirt and you probably had intense hormonal changes or your diet consisted of too much sugar and oil. Experts have also said that acne could be hereditary. And once the acne saga begins, it pretty much stays with you through your adulthood if not taken action on time. So, if you’re someone who has had this problem, you might want to scroll down for this list of acne fighting ingredients that you need to know about.

Thymo-T Essence

Thymo-T Essence

Don’t let the name freak you out as it’s only a naturally occurring plant extract! Extracts of thyme leaves are packed with antibacterial properties and have active substances such as Thymol (Thymo-T Essence) which help break through the cell wall of acne causing bacteria. We recommend the Pond’s Pimple Clear Face Wash. This is a cleanser you should completely trust and incorporate in your acne skincare routine. We swear by it!

Turmeric

Turmeric

Turmeric is the classic granny-favourite ingredient for almost any ailment you might be facing, be it internal or external. Have a wound? Smear some turmeric. Have a bad throat? Have hot haldi milk. The list is never-ending! But did you know that it’s also an ingredient that helps get rid of acne? It removes the p.acnes bacteria which are slow-growing, acne causing bacteria on the top layer of your skin. We strongly swear by the Ayush Anti Pimple Turmeric Face Wash which combats any rashes, bacteria and infections caused due to acne, thus preventing further breakouts! Ayush also has a range of turmeric induced products that you can use.

Green Tea

Green Tea

This antioxidant powerhouse is also packed with anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory benefits that are great acne tacklers. It’s highly recommended to include green tea in your everyday lifestyle and also use products infused with green tea extracts! We recommend using green tea sheet masks for a cooling, soothing effect on your acne.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is a natural astringent; hence, it tightens your skin reducing any large pores that are waiting to collect oil and dirt. The best use of ACV is when you use it as a toner on your skin. Dilute it with water (equal parts of both) and soak a cotton pad in it. Wipe your face with the mixture and leave it on for 10 minutes. Then, rinse it off!

Lemon

Lemon

The citrus fruit is also a natural astringent that helps dry acne out, eventually making them disappear from your face! Its antibacterial properties help eliminate any bacteria which might fuel the duplication of themselves leading to more breakouts. Apply lemon juice to the affected areas with a cotton pad, it will mostly sting (in which case, you can add a little water) every day till the acne dries out. It’s also important to increase the intake of lemon internally for a healthy, glowing complexion! Switch your morning chai with a glass of warm water with lemon and honey to see the max results.

DID YOU KNOW THAT THE SKIN AROUND YOUR NECK AGES FASTER?

DID YOU KNOW THAT THE SKIN AROUND YOUR NECK AGES FASTER?
You might be religiously taking care of your facial skin while feeding it with the right anti ageing ingredients but did you know that your neck is actually one of the first tell-tale signs of ageing. So no matter how youthful your facial skin looks, if you have a saggy neck, it’s all a lost battle. If you wish to know more how to control neck ageing, keep reading…

How does the neck age faster than your face?

How does the neck age faster than your face?

You might have noticed those fine lines now but truth is that it was your neck that had actually warned you first. While you pamper your facial skin with anti-ageing products, know that the skin on your neck is even thinner that the skin on your face. Moreover, the muscle and skin tissues on your neck are even weaker than those on your face. In fact, the term ‘turtleneck’ is attributed to a saggy and wrinkly neck. If you wish to know how you can treat the saggy skin around your neck, scroll down…

Exfoliate twice a week

Exfoliate twice a week

You might be investing a lot in your facial skin but what use is that if the skin on your neck is already giving out your age or worse, making you look older than you actually are? Make sure you go beyond your face and exfoliate your neck twice a week. Dead skin buildup often leads to wrinkly skin. Besides, when your skin is free of dead skin and grime, it will only absorb the anti-ageing products much faster. Invest in a scrub that moisturizes your skin along with buffing away dead skin because you don’t want your skin to turn dry after exfoliating.

Moisturise your neck

Moisturise your neck

When moisturising, invest in a cream that is targeted towards neck-tightening because you want a product that is prepared keeping in mind how delicate the skin around your neck is. We suggest relying on the Pond’s Age Miracle Firm & Lift Face & Neck Lifting Day Cream SPF 30 PA+++. This product contains special ingredients that boost collagen production while preventing your skin from turning dry thereby giving your skin three times more cell renewal power—just what you need when your neck is giving you trouble and looking saggy.

Use facial rollers

Use facial rollers

If you’re into experimenting and don’t mind investing a little more than an anti-ageing cream, invest in jade rollers that are designed to be anti-ageing tools. They aid lymph drainage and accelerate blood circulation thereby helping you getting rid of puffy and wrinkly skin. We suggest roll upwards for best results as far as correcting a saggy neck is concerned.

Don’t forget your Omega-3 fatty acids

Don’t forget your Omega-3 fatty acids

Omega-3 fatty acids are crucial to your skin because they help promote the production of collagen in the body. Your body can use these vital nutrients for the repair of your skin if you include them in your diet post 6pm when there’s hardly any probability of them break down into fuel for various other body functions. So make sure you consume salmon, avocados, chia seeds, walnuts and other such foods that will give your body Omega-3 fatty acids.

IS YOUR HAIR GIVING YOU ACNE?

IS YOUR HAIR GIVING YOU ACNE?
You may have never thought of this possibility but it’s true—your hair can actually be the monster behind your acne. Greasy hair, dandruff-ridden hair or even certain hairstyles—they can all be the reason behind your facial acne. So if you’ve been breaking out all of a sudden and don’t know what’s causing it, this guide might just help you find a solution…

Blame your bangs

Blame your bangs

If you have oily hair and bangs, that’s where your downfall lies. Oily hair and disturbed skin go hand-in-hand. That’s not all, bangs will also make your forehead sweat a lot more. Also know that your bangs are obviously touching your forehead that’s already seeing signs of acne. So give your forehead a break if you’ve been breaking out in that area a bit too much and pin up your bangs.

Is it the dandruff?

Is it the dandruff?

When you have a flaky scalp, there is an obvious chance of the flakes spilling onto your skin. Plus, remember that these flakes get mixed with the dirt and grime in your scalp and can easily rub against your skin while you flip your hair or even brush it. So make sure you treat your dandruff before anything else. For that, rely on the Ayush Anti Dandruff Neem Shampoo and Conditioner. The neem in this range gentle cleanses your hair and prevents dandruff while the Rosemary Tailam in it lends your hair nourishment.

You forgot to shower after a workout

You forgot to shower after a workout

Sweat clogs your pores and you should know that especially the ones around your hairline can easily cause breakouts. So make sure you rinse your hair with a mild shampoo right after your workout. Allowing your sweat to settle into your pores means acne on your scalp and on your face!

Are you using too much heat styling?

Are you using too much heat styling?

We know you’re always in a rush and would rather blow dry your hair than step into office. But do you know how doing this every single day can actually lead to facial acne? Blow drying can dry out your scalp and when that happens, your scalp starts producing extra oil to compensate. This hair touches your skin and boom—acne!

Say no to too many hairstyling products

Say no to too many hairstyling products

Hairstyling products might be meant strictly for the hair but when they trickle and come in contact with your face, they can easily cause acne. This is because hair styling products are rather oily and can easily clog your pores. So make sure you restrict the usage of hairstyling products as much as possible.

HOW TO GET RID OF CHEST ACNE

HOW TO GET RID OF CHEST ACNE
Acne isn’t just restricted to facial skin. We’ve addressed the problem of bacne before and if you wish to read all about it, click Here. But if you’re suffering from chest acne—a common phenomenon for those who generally have acne prone skin, this guide should help you. Just like sebaceous glands can turn overtly active on your face, the same can happen on your chest. And let’s face it—nobody wants acne peeping through your shirt or dress at work or at a party. What you need is an all new skin care regime targeted specifically towards your chest acne. If you want to know how to get rid of acne on your chest, keep reading…

Use an exfoliating body wash

Use an exfoliating body wash

Dead cells often clog pores and lead to pimples. So just like you scrub your face twice a week, make sure you use an exfoliating body wash daily—one that sloughs off dead skin and impurities so no dirt or grime settles on your skin to cause pimples. Try the St Ives – Smoothing Apricot Body Wash that’s made with 100% natural moisturisers and exfoliants. It’s hypoallergenic and suits all skin types. The apricot in it scrubs away dull skin and leaves your skin smooth and healthy. Make sure you use this daily while showering to stay away from chest acne.

Use a cooling lotion

Use a cooling lotion

One of the best ways to keep chest acne at bay is to ensure that your skin care products don’t feel greasy on the skin. What if we told you that you could actually include a body lotion in your skin care routine that’s not only non-greasy but also soothing on your angsty skin? We suggest you go for the Vaseline Intensive Care Aloe Soothe Body Lotion. This one has a non-sticky formula that contains pure aloe, stratys-3 multi-layer moisture, which deeply moisturises the skin without making the skin feel greasy.

Maintain post workout hygiene

Maintain <a href=post workout hygiene" title="Maintain post workout hygiene" width="600" height="400" >

Those yoga mats at yoga class or the weights at the gym—they contain bacteria in plenty. Think of it like this—everyone’s palms are sweaty and multiple people are going to be using the same mat/weight in a day. This doesn’t just mean you need to wash your hands. It also means that you cannot let sweat settle on your skin. When you allow that, it means you’re allowing sweat to get trapped into your pores—something that might eventually take the form of chest acne. So make sure you shower and wash yourself thoroughly after a workout.

Wear breathable fabrics

Wear breathable fabrics

If you’re wearing extremely fitted clothing, that could very well be the culprit behind your chest acne. Wear breathable fabrics that won’t hug your skin and won’t aggravate your chest acne. If you’ve been out in the sun and have been sweating, make sure you shower and get into something breathable just as you return home.

We all know that even toned skin is extremely important especially if you have a function lined up for the festive season...

1. Sun protection

1. Sun protection

First things first, you may have already burnt your skin because of lack of sunscreen, so protect it now! Prevent further tanning of your face and body by using an effective, full coverage sunscreen daily. Even if you are at home. Did you know sitting under a regular tube light causes tanning too? That's why the Japanese use sunscreens even at home! You can try the Lakmé Sun Expert Fairness + UV Lotion SPF 24 & PA++. variant for a full coverage protection against the sun. The best part about this sunscreen is that the texture feels light on the skin.

2. Homemade tan removal mask for the face and body

Mix half a cup of gram flour with 1/4th cup of lemon juice and 1/4th cup of yogurt. Apply this mixture to your face and body 20 min prior to taking a shower thrice every week.

3. A scrub will help you get rid of the upper tanned layer

Scrubbing your face and body helps to get rid of the tanned upper layer of the skin. Therefore as soon as you get home from your vacation, go for a scrubbing and spa session.

THE ULTIMATE ANTI AGEING REGIME FOR 30+ WOMEN

THE ULTIMATE ANTI AGEING REGIME FOR 30+ WOMEN
You’ve dreaded acne all of your teens and possibly, even in your 20s but if you’re 30, you know there are bigger skin woes awaiting you, namely wrinkles, fine lines and saggy skin. You can’t escape signs of ageing and you know age will eventually reflect on your skin but with a promising anti-ageing regime you can most definitely reduce these problems or even help your skin fight them better. So start now and make sure you include the following anti-ageing regime in your everyday life…

Use a skin firming cleanser

Use a skin firming cleanser

It is post 25 that your skin starts showing early signs of ageing. You will suddenly notice how the luminosity you once had is slowly going away and the crow’s feet you dreaded are almost visible. This is why it’s imperative to embrace a skin care routine that involves a cleanser, which firms your skin while doing away with impurities. What you need is the Lakmé Youth Infinity Skin Firming Facial Foam that hydrates your skin, makes your skin taut while lending it a natural radiance.

Treat your pores

Treat your pores

As you age, your pores are more visible since they’re now bigger in size. Your skin has already been through so much by now—the battle of acne where you popped pimples out of lack of patience, the one where you slept with makeup on after too many drinks and the one where you didn’t care about a serious skin care routine because you didn’t make time for it. All of this has now led to some giant pores. It’s about time you did yourself a favour and took the toner seriously. Not only will that shrink pores but it will also ensure that your skin feels oil-free.

Know why you need a day and night cream

Know why you need a day and night cream

A day cream targeted towards anti-ageing is crucial to your skin. Before you step out in the sun and face the pollution along with the merciless weather, it is imperative that your skin feels charged up and firm. At night, your skin gets it time to repair itself from all the harmful substances it has faced throughout the day. This is why you need both a day and night cream in your anti ageing routine. We suggest using the Pond’s Age Miracle Cell ReGEN SPF 15 PA Day Cream and Pond’s Age Miracle Cell ReGEN Deep Action Night Cream. These anti-ageing creams contain advanced CLA4 and Retinol boosters that help hasten the cell renewal process, stimulating your skin from within.

Don’t ignore the area around your eyes

Don’t ignore the area around your eyes

The area under your eyes is the first zone to indicate ageing skin. Crow’s feet and wrinkles are a major cause of concern once you hit the 30s. This is when relying on the Pond’s Age Miracle Firm & Lift Eye Contour Lifter might be perfect for your skin care routine. Not only does this cool your under eye area but it also firms the skin around your eyes while protecting it from UV rays.

Use an effective serum

Use an effective serum

Serums are more concentrated and contain powerful ingredients that can go deep within the skin. And when they have anti-ageing powers, you know the magic they can do for your saggy skin. This is why we always suggest using the Pond's Age Miracle™ Firm & Lift Targeted Lifting Serum Massager, which comes with a metal tip applicator. This one needs to be applied in an upward motion to firm the skin around your neck and jawline.

HOW TO TREAT EVERY KIND OF ACNE

HOW TO TREAT EVERY KIND OF ACNE

We know how troubling life can be when you have acne prone skin. But the ideal way to go about acne treatment is to understand the kind of acne you’re suffering from. You might have something mild once in a while in the form of blackheads and you might have something severe like cystic acne too. Once you know what type of a pimple it is, that’s when you need acne-fighting products specially targeted towards your type of concern. If you wish to know how to get rid of acne, here’s a low-down...

Your problem: Whiteheads

Your problem: Whiteheads

Whiteheads are tiny blemishes aka closed comedones that have oil and dead skin enclosed inside. They are caused by excess oil production that settles into pores. To get rid of acne like whiteheads, you must rely on oatmeal since its abrasive quality will slowly and surely help your skin get better with time. Just take 1/3 cup of oatmeal, ¼ cup brown sugar and ¼ cup honey. Mix it up and apply this to your face while leaving it for 3 minutes before washing off.

Your problem: Blackheads

Your problem: Blackheads

These are open comedones that have turned black due to exposure to air. What causes blackheads? They’re primarily a result of bad skin care hygiene and excessive dead skin buildup. What your skin is in dire need of is a scrub that will not only control oil but also get rid of the blackheads. You can rely on the St.Ives Fresh Face Apricot Scrub because this helps in buffing away dead skin. It contains apricot that soothes your skin. That’s not all, it also contains Vitamin A, Vitamin B and Vitamin E, all of which deeply hydrate your skin.

Your problem: Redness and inflammatory acne

Your problem: Redness and inflammatory acne

This is when your skin is inflamed and there are reddish pimples—a result of extremely sensitive skin. These kinds of acne are filled with bacteria and need something anti bacterial to soothe. We suggest going with a cleanser that’s infused with green tea that contains Catechins, which are antibacterial properties—agents that aid in killing acne causing bacteria. We suggest using the Citra’s Pimple-Clear Face Wash, which is infused with Japanese green tea that reduces pimples and oiliness from the skin.

Your problem: Nodules and cysts

Your problem: Nodules and cysts

Nodules and cysts are large bumps that are rather painful to touch. You might be tempted to pop this pimple because of how big it is but make sure you don’t do that because that would leave a bad scar behind. This is when you need to consult a dermatologist along with adopting a skin care routine targeted towards acne prone skin. We suggest using the Pond’s Pimple Clear Face Wash twice daily as its Active Thymo-T essence works towards controlling excess sebum production and hence, reducing pimples. To reduce the scars on your acne prone skin, we think going with the Fair & Lovely Anti-Marks Treatment might be a wise move. It penetrates 3 layers deep into your skin and works right from the roots to reduce the scars caused by pimple popping.

HOW TO GET RID OF DEAD SKIN CELLS

HOW TO GET RID OF DEAD SKIN CELLS

Your body is full of dead skin. But unfortunately, these dead skin cells don’t leave your skin on their own. You have to physically exfoliate your skin to get rid of them. Why? The process of removing dead skin will ensure that the buildup doesn’t cause breakouts, blackheads and wrinkles. Moreover, when you get rid of dead skin, you’re only removing that dead layer and allowing the new layer of your skin to shine bright. Want to know how to get rid of dead skin cells? Here’s a low-down...

Exfoliate your body

Exfoliate your body

As mentioned above, your entire body is full of dead skin. How do you get rid of that? Allow your bodywash to turn into a dual purpose product that not only moisturises your skin but also buffs away dead skin cells. Our solution? The Dove Gentle Exfoliating Body Wash. Its exfoliating beads help in gently scrubbing dead cells to reveal fresh skin. Moreover, its Nutrium Moisture technology delivers nutrients directly to the skin and keeps it nourished from within. What else could you possibly ask for in a body wash?

Exfoliate your facial skin

Exfoliate your facial skin

Think your skin looks dull every time you look into the mirror? Blame it on dead skin buildup! You may not see it but over time, your skin has accumulated a whole lot of dead skin, thanks to the pollution and grime in the environment—something that has caused your skin to turn lacklustre. This is why you need the St.Ives Fresh Face Apricot Scrub because this one has the power to remove excess oil and dirt from the skin along with removing the dead skin layer. Like that’s not enough, it contains apricot that heals, soothes, protects and energises your skin. It’s also rich in Vitamin A, Vitamin B and Vitamin E—all of which leave your skin glowing and hydrated. Now, that sounds like quite the perfect face scrub, doesn’t it?

Exfoliate your lips

Exfoliate your lips

We often pay extra attention to our facial skin but completely miss out on the fact that even our lips need that added TLC. If you’ve been sleeping with lipstick on or haven’t been using a moisturising lip balm, chances are that your lips look patchy and darker than their original colour. This is a clear sign of dead skin buildup on your lips. Precisely why you need to use a sugar scrub on your lips, stat! Just mix some sugar granules with Vaseline Petroleum Jelly and scrub your lips gently using a toothbrush and this concoction. Do this thrice a week for best results.

Exfoliate your feet

Exfoliate your feet

Smelly feet full of calluses? If you think this is your story, your feet are in dire need of exfoliation. First, soak your feet in warm water and then use a pumice stone to gently scrub the dead skin away. Use a mild soap along with the pumice stone to ensure that the dead skin comes off easily.

BB Trend Alert—Glass Skin, K-Beauty's latest rage

BB Trend Alert—Glass Skin, K-Beauty's latest rage
‘Glass Skin’, the latest trend in Korean beauty, is steadily beginning to take over every skincare lover’s regime. The term refers to absolutely smooth and thoroughly hydrated facial skin that has a very noticeable sheen, one that’s just like glass. To truly achieve ‘Glass Skin,’ your complexion must be pore-less, flawless and translucent.
Glass Skin K Beauty's Trend

As the name suggests, ‘Glass Skin’ is skin that resembles a pane of glass.
For skin to look like glass you’ve got to have a dewy and radiant complexion.

The key to ‘Glass Skin’ is layering all the products from K-beauty’s essential 10-step regime on your face. If you do this as opposed to a regular cleanse, you’ll achieve ‘gwang’, the Korean word for ‘dewy glow’.

So, how does one achieve ‘Glass Skin’?

For skin as dewy and translucent as glass, make only two simple words your mantra— exfoliate and hydrate.

The first trick to ‘Glass Skin’ is exfoliation, as it helps in removing additional dirt, oil, dead skin cells, and other impurities that cause the skin to become rough and make it visibly porous. As we all know, exfoliating skin buffs away dead skin cells and all other impurities.

The next essential when it comes to ‘Glass Skin’ is hydrating skin with serum. This will help lock in moisture and leave you with glowing skin.

Achieve Glass Skin K Beauty's latest Trend

Isn’t absolutely flawless skin what all of us dream of? Well, that’s what the ‘Glass Skin’ beauty regimen gives. By adding the ‘Glass Skin’ technique to your skincare routine, you’ll also need to use far less make-up, as your skin will start to look great just as it is.

Obtaining this much-wanted glow needs long-term commitment, as it isn’t just a zit-zapper. This beauty regime doesn’t just work on the top of your skin— it dives deeper into it and fixes it from within to activate that glow. Thinking of skincare as a chore isn’t right, as it’s a form of self-care and is absolutely necessary.

Why not try out this glow-giving hero and look completely fresh-faced? You know you want to— it’s self-love after all!

HOW TO USE MAKEUP TO MASK TIRED SKIN

HOW TO USE MAKEUP TO MASK TIRED SKIN
You know those people who feel jumpy and gung-ho all the time? They’re only lying to you. If you belong to team tired girl—you’re real and honest. It’s true—keeping up with erratic schedules in a hugely competitive world is no easy task. Amidst trying to excel at everything, we often end up looking our not-so-perfect self. And while it’s completely okay for you to not look dolled up all the time, it won’t hurt to rely on our makeup tips to mask the fatigue on your face. Wondering what these are? Here are a few makeup tricks that can help you...

Your problem: Dullness

Your problem: Dullness

You’ve been in and out of meetings travelling from one location to another. This is when the pollution and sun can get the better of you. Not only will this exhaust you physically but they will also rob the moisture from your skin making it lacklustre and dull. Of course, the need of the hour is getting your sleep cycle back on track along with an effective skin care routine. But what you can do to mask it is use makeup that adds an instant glow to your skin concealing the dullness. We suggest going with the Lakmé Absolute Moonlit Highlighter that’ll add the right amount of glow to your skin.

Your problem: Dark circles

Your problem: Dark circles

One of the first signs of exhaustion is the appearances of dark circles. Primarily caused by lack of sleep and sun damage, dark circles are a real downer for any girl. Moreover, you aren’t giving your skin time to repair through the night because of less sleep. How do you look presentable the next day in such times? Get your hands on a concealer that will mask your dark circles. We suggest going with the Lakmé Absolute White Intense Concealer Stick that will lend your skin the goodness of SPF 20. This one comes in fair and medium shades that give you coverage along with protection from the sun.

Your problem: Dehydrated lips

Your problem: Dehydrated lips

Lack of sleep and tiredness can also cause dehydration of the skin and oxidative stress, which means besides your skin turning dry, your lips will also seem chapped. Moreover, when your body doesn’t rest, you don’t allow it to stimulate cell and tissue repair. Plus, amidst your tiring schedules, you often forget to give your body its dose of water. This is why you need the Lakmé Lip Love Lip Care at all times. The inner core moisturises your lips while the outer core gives you colour. We could all do with that, right?

Your problem: Sleep eyes

Your problem: Sleep eyes

Think your eyes give out the story of your exhaustion? This is when you need a powerful mascara that makes you look awake. We suggest relying on the Lakmé Absolute Flutter Secrets Dramatic Eyes Mascara that will lengthen and add volume to your lashes making your eyes look wider than they actually are.

Your problem: Dry skin

Your problem: Dry skin

Since tired skin causes further dryness for those of you with a dry skin type, it is necessary to ensure that your base makeup is sufficiently hydrating. Skip foundations that dry out your skin. Instead, rely on a foundation like the Lakmé Absolute Argan Oil Serum Foundation. The argan oil in this will hydrate your skin while the finish of the product is dewy. Like that wasn’t enough, it will also lend your skin an SPF 45!

You skip exfoliation

Yeah, you might boast about following the cleansing, toning and moisturising skin care routine to a tee but what use is that skin care regime if it doesn’t have exfoliating at all? Scrubbing your skin with an effective scrub once or twice a week is crucial if you have clogged pores. Not only will the abrasive texture of scrubs ensure that your pores are cleansed but it will also buff away dead skin revealing a brighter complexion.

Use the St. Ives Fresh Face Apricot Scrub for brighter looking skin

You use the wrong makeup

You use the wrong makeup

Remember that non-comedogenic makeup is what you need to look for if you want to get rid of clogged pores. What does that mean? When a product is non-comedogenic, it means that they don’t clog pores. And when your makeup doesn’t block pores, it means there are lesser chances of getting acne and blackheads.

You sleep on unwashed bedsheets

You sleep on unwashed bedsheets

You might be too lazy to change your bedsheets over time but your skin won’t forgive you for that. Fabrics can contain bacteria from the skin and other kinds of germs that can easily transfer onto your skin while you sleep. What happens overnight is that your pores get clogged and your skin reacts and you either wake up to an ugly blackhead or a pimple.

You use an unclean cell phone

You use an unclean cell phone

Yeah, we know you think we’re talking absurd things but all your phone often lies in your bag—a place that carries everything (read: chips packets, pens that lost their caps and lotions that split over). If you think this is your bag, chances are that all those germs have now latched on to your phone and then your cheeks thereby clogging your pores. Disgusting! Make sure you wipe your phone with an anti-bacterial wipe before using it.

5 ACNE MYTHS YOU THOUGHT WERE TRUE

5 ACNE MYTHS YOU THOUGHT WERE TRUE
If you have acne prone skin, you’ve heard so much advice—don’t eat fries, don’t stress or don’t apply makeup. While some it might be true, there are several myths that need to be debunked and addressed now. Acne prone skin is tough to deal with—your hormones might be playing a nasty game with you or the big pimple on your cheek is telling the story of the greasy food you ate few weeks ago. But what you truly need along with the right skin care routine and dermatologist is someone to clear the myths about acne in your head. Let us be the ones to help as we give debunk a list of myths around acne..

You don’t need to moisturise

You don’t need to moisturise

It’s no secret that you have oily skin, thanks to the acne. And yes, there are plenty of people who will tell you to ditch the moisturiser because “your skin doesn’t need more moisture.” We’re bursting that bubble right away—acne prone and oily skin both need hydration. You’re trying to dry your face out thinking you’d say goodbye to acne but in reality, your sebum glands are getting confused and going on an overdrive because they assume your skin needs moisture. Know what that means? More acne! So all you really need to do is keep things under control by adding a moisturiser to your skin care routine. We suggest using a non-greasy lotion like the Vaseline Intensive Care Aloe Soothe Body Lotion. Its Stratys 3 Multi-Layer Moisture and pure aloe extract goes 3 layers deep into the skin to banish dryness and soothe it intensely.

You should stay away from oils

You should stay away from oils

Yeah, we know you cringe when someone talks about the benefits of oil cleansing or using an oil-based skin care product because you think that your skin is already an oil factory. But truth be told, oil only tricks the skin into not overproducing sebum. Something like argan oil, in fact, regulates the production of sebum in your skin. We suggest relying on the Lakmé Absolute Argan Oil Radiance Oil-in-Crème for this purpose. This one has a non-greasy formula that feels feathery light on the skin—just what your acne skin type needs.

You need to wash your face more often

You need to wash your face more often

You might feel that your skin is a magnet for dirt because of the oiliness but washing it more often than required isn’t going to solve the problem. Moreover, if you have hormonal or cystic acne, there’s little that washing your face can do. Also, remember that the more you try to dry out your skin, the oilier it will get. Hence, make sure you wash your face only twice a day with a face wash that suits your skin type.

Acne is only for teenagers

Acne is only for teenagers

About time we busted this myth. Read our story on adult acne here. While acne might show up during your teens, it can be a part of adulthood as well, thanks to PCOD and other hormonal problems. This is when you need to visit a dermatologist or even a gynecologist to ensure that hormonal acne is under control.

Exfoliate more to get rid of acne

Exfoliate more to <a href=get rid of acne" title="Exfoliate more to get rid of acne" width="600" height="400" >

If you have active acne, skip the exfoliation just for a while. But on other days, you might be tempted to go with your scrub or face brush often to ensure that the dirt doesn’t settle into your pores. This is when you make that big skin care big mistake. Over exfoliating will cause more harm than good to your skin. This is what leads to that viscous cycle where your skin starts producing more oil. So if you don’t want further acne, make sure you exfoliate only twice a week.

How to lighten dark underarms effectively

How to lighten dark underarms effectively

This article is for the inner fashion enthusiast in you who would finally breathe a sigh of relief! Dark underarms are a nightmare for all the fashion lovers because they forbid us from flaunting our favorite off shoulder or sleeveless tops without any insecurity.

Dark underarms take a while to develop as a result of our careless skin care and beauty choices, so removing dark underarms isn’t a day’s job. Go through our checklist on how to lighten your dark underarms; it’s super effective!

Waxing is your best friend

Waxing Is Your Best Friend For Dark Underarms

A probable reason for dark underarms is the undergrowth that you may have. Therefore, waxing which not only helps to get rid of any undergrowth but also helps in reducing tan under your arms is a great way to lighten them.

Say no to hair removal creams

The worst thing you can do to your underarms is opting for a razor or hair removal creams. Hair removal creams are highly chemical infused and tend to make your skin dark. Similarly, using a razor leaves you with a hard growth the next time around which makes your underarms appear dark.

DIY underarm paste using potatoes

DIY Underarm Paste Using Potatoes

Potatoes are known for their bleaching properties and therefore are a must use ingredient if you wish to reduce dark underarms. They help in whitening your skin and removing tan too!

You can either use potato juice or sliced potato straight out of your refrigerator. Apply the same for 20 minutes thrice a week for best results.

Organic bleach is great!

We all know how bleach is considered great for reducing face and body tan. But the skin under our arms is way more delicate than the rest of our body. Which is why only organic, mild bleach works great for reducing dark underarms. If you use regular bleach on your underarm area, you will experience the same kind of burn similar to if you use perfume.

Moisturising and hydration

Moisturising and Hydration For Dark Underarms

It may sometimes be the case that your underarm area has developed a mild rash / dark patch because the underarm skin is dry and flaky and as a result irritable. Therefore, using a mild moisturiser helps in maintaining healthy and clean armpits. We suggest you get your hands on the Vaseline Healthy White Moisturiser for it serves the dual purpose of skin whitening and hydration.

Perfumes are not meant for underarms

The most common reason why people have dark underarms is that they’ve relied heavily on deodorant.

Perfumes/ deodorant / body sprays are not meant for your underarms. Have you ever sprayed perfume over a fresh waxed underarm and felt the burn? Yep, that’s the sign your perfume is not formulated for that area!

Exfoliation is key

Exfoliation is key For Dark Underarms

Using a gentle scrub helps to get rid of the flaky, dead skin under your arms which is key to making them clean and light. We suggest you try the Dove Gentle Exfoliating Body Wash as it serves the dual purpose of exfoliation and cleansing white being gentle and hydrating at the same time.

This checklist on how to reduce dark underarms will certainly help you get rid of your underarm insecurity!

Boys might call us drama queens but we do have special talents when it comes to crying over dark circles. We might be ready with the best outfit but everything goes for a toss when we spot under eye darkness. While facials and massages are surely some of the answers to ‘How to remove dark circles’ there are a variety of other routes to fight dark circles. Here are some of them...

Invest in an eye cream

Invest in an eye cream

When it comes to skin care, it’s all about following a routine. Your skin isn’t going to change overnight. So a regime definitely helps and as far as beating under eye circles is concerned, you need to invest in an eye cream. Conceal smartly

Conceal smartly

If you’re looking for the answer to ‘how to remove your dark circles’, taking the makeup route might just be a good idea. Go for an effective concealer that brightens and covers up the dark circles. Our favourite is the stick format one that helps us conceal our dark circles easily. We suggest using the Lakmé White Intense Concealer Stick with SPF 20. This one comes in fair and medium shades that give you coverage along with protection from the sun.

Get adequate sleep

Get adequate sleep

A well-rested body equals flawless skin. Your skin goes through a rigorous process of repair during the night. Hence, sleeping for a good 8 hours will allow your skin to rejuvenate itself and fight fatigue if you truly want to get rid of dark circles.

Rely on SPF

Rely on SPF

Do you think you’re doing enough by opting for a moisturiser? Well, you couldn’t be more wrong. Your sensitive skin deserves much more than that. But that doesn’t mean you have to spend a fortune on fighting dark circles. All you really need to do is get your hands on a broad spectrum SPF that puts up a strong fight against UVA and UVB rays—harmful sun rays that cause tanning and pigmentation. You know that means more visible dark circles, right? If you’re feeling alarmed already, order yourself a sunscreen now!

Give naturals a chance

Give naturals a chance

Ever wondered why many beauty experts rely on their kitchen to solve skin problems? Well, that’s ‘coz naturals might actually be the solution to your concerns. For dark circles in particular, we suggest going with a tomato and lemon juice mix. Tomatoes have bleaching properties and so do lemons. Mix one teaspoon of tomato juice with half teaspoon lemon juice. Apply this mix to your under eye area for 10 minutes and wash off.

HOW TO REMOVE DARK SPOTS

HOW TO REMOVE DARK SPOTS

Dark spots—they might be a result of excess melanin or even acne scars. But what can be said without a doubt is that we all dread spots on our face. So it’s time to find out if you’re following the right skin care regime that will slowly help you banish these marks. If you’ve been asking yourself ‘how to remove dark spots?’ you should know that getting rid of them isn’t a day’s work; your skin deserves ample attention and care to free itself from dark spots. Wondering what we’re talking about? Here’s what you need to include in your skin care routine to remove dark spots...

Know your base

Pond’s White Beauty BB+ Cream

When it comes to skin care, even the makeup you use on your skin is crucial. This means if you do have skin with dark spots or blemishes, you need to ensure that your base is treating your skin along with covering it. What you need is an effective BB cream that hydrates, treats and covers your skin. We suggest relying on the Pond’s White Beauty BB+ Cream that lends you fairness and acts as a sheer foundation. Moreover, it protects your skin from UVA and UVB rays while constantly lightening dark spots.

Rely on an anti marks agent

Fair & Lovely Anti Marks Treatment

If you want the answer to ‘how to remove dark spots’, know that you need a product that is specifically targeted towards the problem—much like a topical treatment for your dark spots. That being the case, what’s the one-stop solution to dark spots? The Fair & Lovely Anti Marks Treatment that targets dark spots and works like laser treatment and penetrates 3 layers deep to work on the marks from the roots. Moreover, its triple sunscreens offer sun protection and prevent the recurrence of marks.

Swear by SPF

Swear by SPF

You should know that UV rays could actually cause your dark spots to turn darker. This is when you tan and pesky spots start appearing on the skin. Worse, if you don’t keep your skin armed with SPF at all times, there is a chance of the spots reoccurring. So make sure you use a broad spectrum SPF irrespective of the weather.

Go for naturals

Lighten Your Dark Spots

While topical treatments work well for dark spots, you can also reach out for something natural in your kitchen to treat your spots. We suggest preparing a face pack with lemon and honey. The citric acid in lemon acts as a bleaching agent and lightens your marks while honey will ensure that your skin doesn’t turn dry. Squeeze half a lemon into a bowl and then add one tablespoon honey to it. Mix it and apply evenly all over your skin including your neck. Using this face pack twice a week will help lighten your dark spots.

Do not pick your skin

Do not pick your skin

Don’t be a zit zapper. There’s nothing worse you can do to your skin. While you treat your dark spots, you need to ensure that you’re also preventing your skin from getting scarred further. So no matter how desperate you feel, make sure you don’t pop your pimple. In fact, we suggest keeping your hands off your face at all times.

How to get rid of warts the natural way

How to get rid of warts the natural way

We’ve all had a minor or major case of warts once in our lifetime.
Warts can show up on any part of the body and can be brown to pink and even yellow in colour. They’re essentially the outcome of a viral skin infection usually from the human papillomavirus family. Often starting off through a scratch, and then affecting the skin around it, warts are viral in nature which means that they can be transferred from person to person.

While they are known to fade away in time, some can last for longer and will need immediate attention. Listed below are 7 natural ways of getting rid of warts…

apple cider vinegar banana peel to get rid of warts

  1. Use Apple Cider Vinegar – Soak a ball of cotton in apple cider vinegar and rub it on the warts. Protect with a bandage and see the wart reduce and disappear.

Apple cider vinegar has anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties and is an effective way to get rid of warts.
  2. Use Banana Peel – Cut a piece of fresh banana peel and gently scrape off the inside. Apply on the wart and protect it with bandage. This will gradually help you get rid of the warts.

use pineapple baking powder to get rid of warts

  1. Use Pineapple – Apply a piece of fresh pineapple directly on the wart. The natural acids and enzymes present in the pineapple will help the warts to disappear.
  2. Use Baking Powder and Castor Oil – Make a paste with baking powder and castor oil. Apply on the affected area and cover it with a cloth. Leave it overnight. Repeat till the warts disappear. Adding crushed fresh basil leaves will hasten the process.

use aloe vera aspirin to get rid of warts

  1. Use fresh Aloe-vera – Rub the gel of the Aloe-Vera leaf on the warts. Cover and repeat till you get rid of the warts. The presence of malic acid in the gel gives it anti-viral properties.
  2. Use Aspirin – Crush a tablet of aspirin and make a paste with water. Apply on the warts at night. Repeating this process will ensure that you get rid of the warts.

essential oils to get rid of warts

Many types of essential oils have anti-viral properties and will help you to get rid of these unwanted warts. Tea tree oil, lemon oil, cypress oil etc can be applied on warts. Remember to wash your hands after you have touched any wart though.

A healthy immune system will prevent warts from forming. So boost your immune system by eating right. Foods high in B-vitamins and calcium and dark leafy greens will help in keeping warts from appearing. Make fruits like cherries and blueberries a part of your daily diet. Processed foods, high in sugar or containing unhealthy fats should be totally avoided.

Of course, these are home remedies; however, if you do feel like your warts could be more serious in nature and that the growth seems to be increasing (in size or area) remember to consult a dermatologist or skin specialist.

7 ways to prevent chest acne

7 ways to prevent chest acne

Acne on the face is something we’ve all seen (if not experienced). But the truth is that most people with face acne also suffer from some form of body acne, mostly chest or back.

Regardless of location, acne is mostly caused by a buildup of excess oil, clogged pores, bacteria and inflammation. When the skin’s natural oil gets trapped in clogged pores, it becomes a breeding ground for bacteria. If the blockage is close to the skin’s surface, the acne will be mild (blackheads/ whiteheads) but incase the infection is much deeper, the acne gets more severe.

We’ve scoured over many remedies and handpicked our top 7 tried and tested ways to get rid of chest acne and leave no trace behind…

Oatmeal to prevent chest acne

  • Oatmeal

We know that the real devil behind acne is excess oil. What better than oatmeal to absorb oil + cleanse pores to get any possible dirt out of the skin? Here’s how you turn breakfast into a quick-n-easy acne treatment.

Step 1: Cook the oatmeal and stir in a teaspoon of honey and lemon juice

Step 2: Apply the paste on the acne affected chest area and leave on for 30 minutes.

Step 3: Rinse with warm water.

lemon juice to prevent chest acne

  • Lemon Juice

Due to its super acidic nature, lemon juice is a miracle ingredient when it coms to cleansing. It can clean any dirt that has been left on the skin pores even for a long time. It’s so simple you will be flawed by the results it can have. (No wonder lemon juice is the key ingredient in most cleaners/ dishwashing liquids etc.)

Step 1: Slice a lemon into two and rub the open part on the chest area

Step 2: Leave it on for 2-3 hours

Step 3: Wash the area thoroughly.

apple cider vinegar to prevent chest acne

  • Apple Cider Vinegar

So turns out apple cider vinegar isn’t just a great salad ingredient but also does wonders for any bacterial infection on the skin! It can balance the pH level of the skin keeping the alkaline level in check, so that it is harder for bacteria to penetrate.

Step 1: Take a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar and place it on a cotton ball.

Step 2: Rub the cotton ball on the skin & leave for about 30 minutes (or overnight if possible)

Step 3: Clean with fresh water.

tea tree oil to prevent chest acne

  • Tea Tree Oil

The medicinal properties of tea tree oil are well known today, with any major skincare brand boasting a whole range featuring this star ingredient. Tea tree oil is a great natural remedy to cleaning the skin + killing bacteria, making it an ideal natural solution for chest acne.

Step 1: Place one drop of tea tree oil on the acne affected chest area.

Step 2: Leave it on till completely dry. (No washing off required)

multani mitti to prevent chest acne

  • Multani Mitti

No skin care advice can be complete without talking about Fuller’s earth or Multani Mitti. This wondrous natural clay absorbs excess oil from the skin but never dries out. The dash of rosewater (our favourite astringent) shrinks the pores, and sandalwood soothes the skin irritation. This one is like a magic potion that works on your skin in so many amazing ways.

Step 1: Mix together 1 tablespoon each of fuller’s earth, rose water and sandalwood powder.

Step 2: Apply this mixture on your chest acne & leave on for 20 minutes.

Step 3: Rinse off normally with water.

egg whites to prevent chest acne

  • Egg Whites

We knew that egg was great for the hair but a cure for acne? Yes those ubiquitous egg whites are in fact rich in vitamins, proteins and amino acids, which is why they soak up the excess oil, fight with bacteria and shrink the pores preventing any dirt accumulation. Cheap, easy and effective!

Step 1: Whisk an egg white in a bowl till frothy.

Step 2: Apply on acne-affected area on chest

Step 3: Once dry, apply another layer of the egg white. Repeat this application process to put 4-5 layers on the skin.

Step 4: After the last application completely dries, rinse off with water.

Papaya to prevent chest acne

  • Papaya

Our favourite breakfast fruit now doubles up as an awesome chest acne treatment! Papaya contains enzymes that have both antibacterial and antiviral properties. It unclogs the pores and exfoliates the accumulated dead skin. It also contains vitamins, which help in production of new and healthy skin cells.

Step 1: Peel and chop papaya into chucks.

Step 2: Blend the chunks into a paste

Step 3: Apply the paste on the affected areas of acne on the chest.

Step 4: Leave on for about 30 minutes and rinse off with water.

(For extra benefits, you can add honey, lemon juice or yogurt)

So there you have it… We think it’s time to get those chest acne issues off your chest…quite literally!

Remember that most acne treatments tend to contain harsh ingredients that promise overnight cures. Instead of investing in these choose a gentle cleanser like the Dove Deeply Nourishing Body Wash and follow that up with a potent moisturiser like the Vaseline Intensive Care Deep Restore Body Lotion that can nourish your skin.

Remember, the key is to be consistent and let the treatment take its course… And soon you can flaunt those fancy deep neck tops and low-back outfits you’ve been dying to wear!

5 EASY WAYS TO UNCLOG PORES AT HOME

5 EASY WAYS TO UNCLOG PORES AT HOME
We all have pores but in some of us, the pores are often clogged and easily visible. Reason? Oily or acne prone skin. If you do suffer from oily skin, you probably also know how excess sebum and bacteria easily find a home in your pores making them appear bigger, causing acne and breakouts. When you have been fighting pimples, it’s best to start from the root and one of the best ways to do so is by ensuring that your pores are clear and cleansed. Wondering how that’s done? Here’s a low-down…
lemon for unclog pores

  • Make use of lemon

While lemons will always be an integral part of the kitchen, you can also make them an important part of your skin care regime. The citric acid in lemon works towards exfoliating your skin and clearing any bacteria that is stuck deep within your pores. Like that’s not enough, lemons also help in lightening your complexion! You can mix lemon juice with honey or oatmeal and apply this concoction as a face pack.

charcoal for unclog pores

  • Try activated charcoal

If there’s a magnet for bacteria in the skin care world, it’s got to be activated charcoal. Known to suck out toxins and clear the complexion, activated charcoal works its way into pores and pulls out the excess gunk stuck inside thereby helping oxygen to flow. So if you truly want a treatment for your clogged pores, look no further than activated charcoal powder. Prepare a mask while mixing 2 tablespoons of charcoal powder with 1 tablespoon rose water and apply this to your face. Wash off after 20 minutes.

steam for unclog pores

  • Rely on steam

If you want an inexpensive way to treat clogged pores, there’s nothing better than taking steam. The steam allows your pores to open up thereby helping draw out any bacteria or excess oil from the pores. For your benefit, you can even add an essential oil like tea tree to the steam to ensure your face feels deeply cleansed and rejuvenated.

sugar for unclog pores

  • Go for sugar

Cakes, donuts and candies—sugar is an inseparable part of some of our favourite foods. But have you heard how sugar helps skin concerns like clogged pores? Well, sugar is an excellent exfoliating agent that helps break scar tissues and draws out the impurities from your pores leaving your face smooth and supple. To make the most of it, mix 1 tablespoon of sugar and squeeze in half a lemon into it. Scrub your face gently with this mix and wash off after 3 minutes.

trusty scrub for unclog pores
