There is a fine line between a controlled, strategically placed highlight on your face and that shiny, greasy layer that invariably ends up on your face around mid-day. If you have battled with oily skin for ages and yet it gets the better of you, we urge you to start a regular morning and evening skincare routine featuring - acids!

With so many skin aggressors you are exposed to, having normal skin is impossible! You are a freak of nature if you have normal skin! If you have dry, oily or sensitive skin basically if you are human, we have started this ‘skin series’ where we give easy to follow skincare routines for your particular skin type.  Our focus is on layering acids that are beneficial for your skin type, so here goes!

Step 01: Hyaluronic acid

Start by cleansing and toning your face. Then layer with a product that has hyaluronic acid. Oily skin needs moisturisation just as much as any other skin type. Hyaluronic acid is a humectant and packs 1000 times its own weight in moisture. It is light and will not weigh your skin down.

Step 02: Vitamin C

Next apply a serum that has vitamin C. This will fight free radicals; improve brightness and increases collagen production.

Step 03: Polyglutamic acid

As the last step in your skincare and before you start with your makeup, apply a serum or cream which has polyglutamic acid. This is a super food for your skin which promotes the skin’s natural exfoliation process and helps retain the skin’s natural moisture.

Step 01: Salicylic acid

Salicylic acid is a mild exfoliating agent, and using a face wash with this acid is useful in unclogging pores, a common problem with oily skin. This acid is particularly effective at breaking through the oily layer on your skin, thus giving you a deep cleanse.

Step 02: Hyaluronic acid

After cleansing, replenish the moisture content of your skin with another layer of hyaluronic acid.

Step 03: Caffeine

Give your skin a caffeine kick and let it make your skin go into overdrive while you sleep. Skin regenerates itself while you sleep and a caffeine serum will energise your skin and reduce puffiness and give an antioxidant boost.

A face mask with Fuller’s Earth (multani mitti) or Kaolin Clay will help maintain your oily skin. These help regulate the appearance of oil on your skin.
