We all love a good, effective DIY skin care routine, especially when it’s a salon treatment–take body masks for example. Ever thought of treating yourself to spa-like body mask goodness?

In winters, we often focus on moisturising just our face and forget the fact that the skin on our body also needs equal moisturisation and pampering. With a good body mask, you can show the largest organ of your body some love as it relaxes, soothes and removes toxins from your body. Check out this super hydrating body mask DIY that you can try…

What you will need

Kaolin clay

Kaolin clay

Kaolin clay is best suited for the winters, as it’s gentle on the skin and doesn’t suck moisture out of it unlike most of the other clays. It nourishes, soothes, detoxifies, removes dead skin cells, stimulates blood circulation and softens the skin. So many benefits!

Essential oils

You will need lavender essential oil for its ultimate ability to provide relaxation. Also, fragrance! You will also need a carrier oil. So, for dry skin, we recommend almond, coconut or jojoba oil.

Water

Because the clay has to be mixed with something to give you a consistency of your choice.

A towel

To cocoon yourself into after applying the body mask.

The procedure

DIY Body Mask for Winter

Mix 1 and a half cup of kaolin clay with water to form a semi-solid paste. Make sure the paste isn’t very watery as it’ll drip off your body. Add 5 - 6 drops of lavender essential oil to the carrier oil (almond, coconut, and jojoba) and add it to the clay. Mix it well.

Stand in your shower and apply the clay mask all over your face and body using a clean paint brush. Cover all the parts, like your under arms, nape, back of the knees etc.

Wait for the body mask to begin to dry and then wrap yourself with your towel. Wait it out till the mask does its job! Let it stay for about 30 minutes. Then, shower with lukewarm water wand get rid of all the clay! You can even skip using your body wash, but if you’re using one, make sure it’s a mild one.

It’s important to sustain all the nourishment you just gave your skin. Which is why, you’ve got to hydrate it immediately after showering, when it’s a little damp. This helps the lotion soak in better. Trust a long lasting body lotion such as the Vaseline Intensive Care Deep Restore Body Lotion that provides immense moisture without making your skin greasy or sticky!

We’re totally whipping up this body mask this season! Are you?
