Couturier Tarun Tahiliani's seminal line showcased at Lakmé Fashion Week was inspired by his trip to the NGMA last year, when he was enchanted by the arresting artworks of the iconic Mrinalini Mukherjee. The end result was an interplay of structure and fluidity, form and movement.

Theme: Soaking in the unbridled beauty of Mrinalini's sculptures, Tarun created ensembles, which reflected his push on construction and tailoring techniques.

Ambience: Elegantly lit with red, black and white lights and a silken web, the runway complemented Tarun's moody and charming colour palette.

Music: Quite a music connoisseur himself, Tahiliani collaborated with Isheeta Ganguly, acclaimed Indian-American fusion singer. Ganguly infused soul into the presentation with her powerful rendition of ‘Bande Mataram.’

Beauty: Classic nude make-up and wine-toned lips let the statement-making ensembles do all the talking. Side parted and center-parted hair was artfully tied into buns at the back for a hint of whimsical nonchalance. For the full decode of the look, read our story here.

What we loved:
Tarun has always been the unrivalled master of the drapes—every contour, pleat and curve is moulded to perfection. This time he flirted with earthy tones and reinterpreted red, cobalt blue, charcoal, olive and rust bringing to mind a glamorous fall winter.

Transmogrifying Mukherjee’s sculptures, the artisanal collection juxtaposed jerseys and textures in chanderi, fringing and crochet using thick chenille yarns mingled with graphic textures and ombre to create a surreal 3D feel.

The luscious and tactile quality of cowl drapes on gilets, capes, concept sarees and dresses was accented by aari, resham, and brush embroidery. It was a glittery fury of embellishments with antique gold sequins on soft net, Italian tulle, crepe, georgette and micro pleated tulle casting quite a spell.

What was missing: The showstopper outfit was a bit of a let-down and didn't have the 'finale' feel to it. The black skirted ensemble lacked this master couturier's characteristic touch.

Showstopper: Kangana Ranaut played a whimsical muse as she walked the ramp with her trademark confidence posing for a selfie with Tarun.
