The Legend of Bhagat Singh (2002)

One of the best made biopics in Hindi cinema, The Legend of Bhagat Singh (TLOBS) is a must watch on Independence Day. After all, it has a powerhouse performer like Ajay Devgn playing Bhagat Singh, the young freedom fighter who gave his life putting up a strong fight against the British rule. Stellar performances and intense scenes showcasing patriotism at its best, TLOBS is the one film that rules every Indian’s heart.

Lakshya (2004)

Although Lakshya didn’t make much moolah at the box-office, it is still one of the best made patriotic films of recent times. A must watch for every Indian, the film has Hrithik Roshan playing a slacker in the first half while in the second part of it, he is seen essaying the role of an upstanding army officer with utmost conviction. A tale based on the historical events of the 1999 Kargil conflict, Lakshya can be counted as one of the most interesting patriotic films to be made in Bollywood.

The Rising: Ballad Of Mangal Pandey (2005)

Played by the perfectionist of Bollywood, Aamir Khan, Mangal Pandey was a brave film based on the oppression of the British. Pandey, who was the leading soldier of the 1857 mutiny, fought hard against the British in an attempt to free the country and it is through this film that various details about the mutiny came to the fore. Watch this for stellar performances and of course, its powerful story.

Rang De Basanti (2006)

Revolving around a British documentary filmmaker coming to India to make a film on freedom fighters, RDB is still a favourite amongst the youth. Packaged with friendship, humour and of course, patriotic spirit, RDB went on to win the National Award for the Best Popular Film.
